Weekend Football Preview/Overview

Wondering what football is on this weekend? Action from the Premier League and Championship continues this weekend with some big derbies to look forward to.

From the Merseyside Derby at Goodison Park, to a crunch game between two promotion contenders in the Championship at The Hawthorns, there’s plenty of big games to look forward to over the coming days.

What football is on this weekend? Reds seek response at Goodison

After the drama of conceding a late equaliser to Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Wednesday night, Liverpool will be determined to get back to winning ways when they travel to rivals Everton in Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off.

Conceding late to see the game in Newcastle finish 3-3, Liverpool will be looking for a more resolute defensive performance when they take the field at Goodison Park this weekend.

The Reds still have the best defensive record in the Premier League, with 11 goals conceded in 14 games, while they also have one of the best attacking players in Mohamed Salah.

Scoring his 13th goal in 14 league games last time out as part of a brace against the Magpies, Salah will be hoping to add to the seven goals he’s previously scored against the Toffees.

What football is on this weekend? Chelsea out to inflict more woes on Spurs

Closing the gap to frontrunners Liverpool to seven points, Chelsea have been happy to go under the radar this season.

However, the spotlight has been starting to shift on what’s happening at Stamford Bridge under new boss Enzo Maresca.

The Blues can next look forward to a trip across the capital to face rivals Tottenham Hotspur in north London.

In contrast to the growing optimism at Stamford Bridge, all does not appear to be well in the Spurs camp following their 1-0 defeat at Bournemouth on Thursday night.

Lilywhites boss Ange Postecogou had a confrontation with Spurs fans after the full-time whistle and the Australian tactician could certainly use a derby win over Chelsea to ease the pressure on his shoulders.

Sunday will also see Chelsea’s fellow title challengers Arsenal in action in another all-London affair, as the Gunners travel to Fulham.

Having earned a 2-0 win over Manchester United in midweek, Mikel Arteta’s side will be eager to make sure there are no slip-ups when they head to Craven Cottage this weekend.

What football is on this weekend? Blades set for Baggies battle

The battle for promotion in the Championship also continues this weekend, with frontrunners going into this next round of games, Sheffield United, in action on Sunday.

After relegation from the Premier League last season, the Blades have responded well under manager Chris Wilder, earning 38 points from their first 18 games.

Conceding just nine goals in the Championship this term, only fellow title contenders Burnley have conceded fewer with six.

Next the Blades head to The Hawthorns on Sunday to face a West Brom side that have become the stalemate specialists this season.

Drawing 10 of their 18 games this term, including nine of their last 10 Championship outings, the Baggies are in need of wins if they are to keep themselves within touching distance of the coveted play-off places.
