Ross Burdon Racing: Back Amongst the Winners, June 9th 2026

Ross Burdon Racing

Not many trainers in the country can boast having a monthly 100% strike rate over a week into June, but that’s exactly what Ross Burdon Racing has at the time of writing. Granted, since the start of the month we have only had one runner, Mesaafi, who won for the first time since June 2025 last Monday evening at Windsor.

Ross Burdon Racing: Huge June 9th 2026 Update

Having won two races last summer from a mark of 80, as well as placing at Ascot from 87, Mesaafi was well handicapped on last years best form, now racing off a mark of 79 and duly obliged, winning for the first time on turf as well as recording a first win at the minimum trip of five furlongs.

During the early stages of the race I was very concerned, Mesaafi always jumps and travels so well, but the frenetic early pace set by Gina Mangan on Solar Edge caught Mesaafi flat footed slightly. Despite being outpaced early, Mesaafi responded to all of Jack Mitchell’s urgings and once they turned the slight bend into the straight and Mesaafi had a target to aim at, he picked up superbly to run down the front runner and score by a neck.

Windsor’s Monday evening meetings are always good fun and we had a good bunch of our syndicate members on course to celebrate, which always makes victories like this sweeter. Mesaafi will most likely head back to Windsor on the 22nd, before a return to Ascot next month for the Heritage handicap he finished a close third in last year.

Ross Burdon Racing: Upcoming Runners

We were hoping to run Seventy on Monday at Pontefract, my hometown track, but the weather put paid to that. Seventy is a horse that loves to hear his hooves rattle and rain through most of the weekend had turned the ground slower than ideal. Another horse we were aiming to run this week is Beauty Generation, who was entered to run at Kempton on Wednesday evening, but, frustratingly BG was balloted out, missing the cut by just one.

Both horses have been in great form and I would have been hoping for good runs from both, we will now find them another opportunity and hope to keep them on top form in the mean time. We will be getting to the track this week though, High Point will head to Yarmouth on Thursday afternoon and Hellcat heads to Doncaster on Sunday.

Ross Burdon Racing: High Point

High Point disappointed on his last start, finishing down the field at Kempton, although nothing really went right, we were drawn wide and unable to take up his favoured handy position before being buffered around and kept wide for most of the two mile trip. Silvestre de Sousa sensibly looked after High Point and he has come out of the race in good form. After racing quite keenly at Kempton we are coming down in trip to a mile and a half which shouldn’t pose us any problems, High Point has a very high cruising speed and as long as he can get into a nice rhythm towards the front of the field he should run a big race.

Hellcat makes her third start for us and her owners, Vesper Solis Racing, at Doncaster this Sunday afternoon. Hellcat can be tricky but Will Carver has developed a good relationship with her on the track, improving her performance on each of her runs so far, finishing third at Wolverhampton on her last start. Her homework has been very good since that run and I would be quietly confident she could put up a big performance as long as she behaves in the preliminaries.
