Saturday Racing Tips: York and Sandown Preview, June 13th 2026

Saturday Racing Tips

Dave Massey is back with his Saturday Racing Tips looking at a busy day of action from York and Sandown. Read his exclusive preview and best bets in his weekly kwiff column. There’s good prize money at York for the Macmillan charity race weekend, whilst Sandown plays host to the Listed Scurry Stakes with Godolphin’s Words of Truth the warm market leaders for Charlie Appleby and Oisin Murphy.

Saturday Racing Tips: York/Sandown Preview

With conditions and/or the trip a question mark for a few of these, it could pay to give old Arqoob (1.50) the vote, particularly with Brodie Hampson, always a plus point in these lady amateur rider events, in the saddle.

Saturday Racing Tips: Arboob (York, 1.50)

Remarkably the 8yo has never tried his hand at York but the track ought to suit, and Arqoob shaped really well on his reappearance at Newmarket, staying on in grand fashion to be beaten a shade over two lengths by the useful Asgard’s Captain.

That was without headgear, and the cheekpieces go back on today, which could also help; he won in first time blinkers at Newmarket last August and could respond positively to them too. He stays further than this, so a good pace will help, and all looks in place for a big run.

Saturday Racing Tips: Red Spells Danger (York, 2.35)

Red Spells Danger (2.35) always looked the sort that would make up into a good sprinter this year and so it is proving, winning his last two races by a combined twelve and a half lengths, and he took them apart in a competitive 0-85 handicap at Hamilton last time, travelling strongly and putting the race to bed easily. He just looks a fast-improving 3yo and can make light of the 10lb rise he got for the Hamlton success.

Saturday Racing Tips: Poatan (Sandown, 2:42)

Words Of Truth has a class advantage over the rest of these, but for those looking for an alternative give Poatan (2.42) a try. He did nothing but improve at two and ended up running a 1½ length third in Doncaster’s valuable sales race in September, form that looks all the better after second home Song Of The Clyde won the Carnarvon at Newbury at the beginning of this season.  He’s been gelded since last he last raced and this will be his first start of the season, so it’s possible he’ll need the outing, but his form last year ought to mean he’s a shorter price than he is. Definite chances if he’s fit and ready to go.

Saturday Racing Tips: Raammee (Sandown, 3:17)

Raammee (3.17) looked the part in the paddock on his reappearance here at Sandown last month and the market expected him to come out on top, Raammee going off a well-backed 11-8 favourite, but he was too keen early on and faded out of things to finish a 2¾ length fourth to Boyfriend. He looked like he might benefit from some headgear and sure enough, Roger Varian reaches for the hood today, and if that does the trick, there’s still time for him to fulfil his potential. Can get back on track today.
