A Battle for the Ages: Liverpool v Man City 2024

A Battle for the Ages: Liverpool v Man City 2024 Preview

The Premier League’s late kick-off on Sunday sees the top two go head-to-head at Anfield as league leaders Liverpool host reigning champions Manchester City.

The Reds have been a force to be reckoned with both domestically and on the continent this season and victory would place them firmly in the driving seat for their second Premier League title.

City, meanwhile, find themselves in their worst run of form in the Pep Guardiola era, losing five of their last six matches, and the Citizens head into this contest on the back of squandering a three-goal lead to draw 3-3 at home to Feyenoord in the Champions League on Tuesday.

A Battle for the Ages: Reds can strengthen hold on title with victory

Liverpool head into the weekend holding an eight-point lead over second-placed City and they can increase their advantage at the summit of English football with victory at Anfield.

Arne Slot’s men have dropped points in just two games so far this season – a shock 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest and a 2-2 draw at fellow title hopefuls Arsenal – and have won each of their last eight home matches in all competitions, including an impressive 2-0 victory over Real Madrid in the Champions League in midweek.

City, meanwhile, have been in wretched form and have lost each of their last three matches in the Premier League – against Bournemouth (2-1), Brighton (2-1) and Tottenham (4-0).

Considering they have won just one of their last 23 visits to Anfield in all competitions, another defeat on Merseyside looks a strong possibility for the visitors.

A Battle for the Ages: Hosts’ defence to shine on Merseyside

Liverpool’s strong start to the campaign has been highlighted by their impressive defensive record and they can keep the likes of Erling Haaland, Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden at bay this weekend.

The Reds have conceded just eight goals in the Premier League this season and just three of these have come at Anfield – against Forest, Chelsea (2-1) and Brighton (2-1).

Arne Slot’s men are currently on a run of three consecutive home clean sheets in all competitions and they will feel confident of frustrating the visitors, who have been wasteful in front of goal in recent weeks – scoring just three league goals from 56 shots across their last three top-flight matches.

A Battle for the Ages: Super Salah to be City scourge once again

Mohamed Salah has once again been Liverpool’s main man this season, scoring 10 goals and laying on six assists already in the league.

The Egyptian has six goals from his last five Premier League appearances and this impressive form puts him in good stead to bag again on Sunday.

Salah also boasts a strong record when facing City, scoring 11 goals against them across his career and so, if anyone is to break the visitors’ hearts, expect it to be the Reds’ star winger.
