This year’s Six Nations 2025 Championship takes place this year, the 26th renewal, and it promises to be another enthralling tournament, which begins with France’s home clash against Wales on Friday night.
Six Nations 2025: Massive Outright Tips
Two-time defending champions Ireland are aiming to become the first country to win the title three years in a row, but they will have to do so without head coach Andy Farrell, who prepares to take charge of the British & Irish Lions this summer and has been temporarily replaced by defence coach Simon Easterby.
France are hoping to lift the trophy for the first time since 2022 and they have two of their star players back in the fold this year, while England and Scotland are both in the conversation if they can find consistency. As for Italy and Wales, a fight to avoid the dreaded ‘Wooden Spoon’ is more likely than a battle for top honours.
Six Nations 2025: Allez Les Bleus
France were without two key players for the 2024 Six Nations – fly-half Romain Ntamack and scrum-half Antoine Dupont – but those two are both available again and have been named in the starting XV for Friday’s opener against Wales at the Stade de France. Les Bleus have won 15 of their 19 Six Nations matches when the pair have both started, evidence of how crucial they are to the team and they can ensure France get off to a quick start against a Welsh outfit who lost all 11 Tests last year.
Head coach Fabien Galthie has a plethora of talent to choose from across the pitch, including the likes of Thomas Ramos, Yoram Moefana and Louis Bielle-Biarrey in the backs and Gregory Alldritt and Uini Atonio in the forwards, and this seems to be a more settled squad than the one in last year’s Six Nations.
The fixture list has been quite kind to France in the early exchanges with trips to an inconsistent England in round two and Italy in round three, and this should help Les Bleus build momentum and confidence quickly in preparation for the potential title-deciding round four clash against Ireland at Aviva Stadium.
Six Nations 2025: Flying Scots
While France’s Damian Penaud will appeal in the top tryscorer market, he has been ruled out of the first match against Wales and that will cost him when it comes to his tournament try count. Therefore, the better play here looks to be backing Scotland’s talisman Duhan van der Merwe to end up top of the pile, just as he did in 2021 and in 2024 – joint with Ireland’s Dan Sheehan.
The 29-year-old is already Scotland’s leading all-time tryscorer, crossing the whitewash 30 times since making his international debut in 2020, and he could make a fast start in his country’s opener against Italy at Murrayfield on Saturday. With further home games against Ireland and Wales, Scotland will fancy their chances of winning the title and the prolific Van der Merwe can play a crucial role for them.
