After two weeks of playing in Hawaii, the world’s finest golfers head to mainland USA for the first time this season for the opening event of the ‘West Coast Swing’, the American Express and we have 3 huge PGA Tour Golf Tips for punters this week.
PGA Tour Golf Tips: 3 Huge Fancies for American Express 2025
The Pete Dye Stadium Course, PGA West Nicklaus Tournament Course and La Quinta Country Club will be used in rotation for the first three days, before a 54-hole cut is made and the final round takes place at the Pete Dye layout.
Scottie Scheffler is missing once again due to the hand injury he suffered over Christmas, though he hopes to return for the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in two weeks time, while Xander Schauffele has withdrawn ahead of the event on medical grounds.
PGA Tour Golf Tips: Happy Memories for Dunlap
American Nick Dunlap burst on to the scene at this event last year, when he became the first amateur to win a PGA Tour event since Phil Mickelson in 1991 with a tournament-record score of -29. Proving that was no fluke, the 21-year-old also landed the Barracuda Championship in July and he now heads back to the scene of his first success on the back of last week’s tied-10th finish at the Sony Open. Dunlap putted his lights out in Hawaii, ranking first in strokes gained in that department, and he looks a huge threat armed with a red-hot flat-stick.
PGA Tour Golf Tips: Fledgling Fishburn
Patrick Fishburn enjoyed a strong end to 2024, recording a T12 at the World Wide Technology Championship and a T8 at the RSM Classic, and he has kept that form going into the new year with a share of sixth last week.
The 32-year-old is getting closer to making his PGA Tour breakthrough and with a solid week on the greens required in California, it bodes well that he was 11th in SG putting in Hawaii. Fishburn, who led in greens in regulation last season, arrives at a career-high 93rd in the world rankings and it would be no surprise to see him put in another strong showing.
PGA Tour Golf Tips: Super Straka
Sepp Straka hasn’t tasted success since the 2023 John Deere Classic but that could all change this week, as he returns to an event he was tied-fourth in back in 2020. The Austrian ended 2024 with a T9 at the Hero World Challenge and looked solid in his first outing of 2025 at The Sentry, ending up in a share of 15th place.
Last week’s T30 effort at the Sony Open will have been a little disappointing, but his tee-to-green game was superb as he was unrivalled in driving accuracy and tied-10th in strokes gained approach. If the 31-year-old can exact some improvement from the putter, then he will have a strong chance of contending for the win. There is also the added incentive of 2025 being a Ryder Cup year, so Straka will want to get the season off to a fast start and put himself in captain Luke Donald’s thinking.
