The Darting Diary of Dave Chisnall: Beautiful Blackpool 2024

Dave Chisnall

Darts supremo and World Number 7 Dave Chisnall sits down with kwiff to review his recent Euro Tour success in Leverkusen, the previous week’s Pro Tour event in Milton Keynes, as well as a look forward to the World Matchplay Darts in Blackpool and England’s upcoming Euro 2024 semi-final with the Netherlands.

Dave Chisnall: Players Championship 13 and 14

There was another couple of decent Pro Tour events this week in Milton Keynes, won by Johnny Clayton and Ross Smith, and both played really well to win their respective events. I was really pleased for Ross, whoI beat in the final of last month’s Euro Tour event in Leverkusen. It was some feat by Dutch lad Wesley Plaisier too, who got to both finals and was unlucky to bump into one on the day.

I went out in the first round in PC13 despite averaging 100+ and then went out 6-4 in PC14 despite again playing well. It’s just one of those things. I saw the headlines that Luke (Littler) went out early in both events, but it’s just clickbait stuff and in these race to 6 type events, it’s easy to get knocked out if you run into someone who’s in form.

I’m happy with the state of my game before Blackpool, and I’m really excited for next week’s World Matchplay. I’ve always had such an affinity for The Winter Gardens and think it has the best darts fans in the world there each and every year.

The draw has already been made, and the first thing that stuck out was that I’m on late next Sunday… the day of the Euros final! It would be typical for England to get to the final and then me not be able to watch because I’m playing darts haha!

I play Krzysztof Ratajski who is a really good player. To be fair, they are all good players otherwise they wouldn’t be at The Matchplay. That being said, if I play as good as I can, and what I’ve shown so far this year (such as when winning the Euro Tour event last month) I fancy to give anyone a game on that stage.

Dave Chisnall: England at Euro 2024

Well, England aren’t exactly an easy watch are they? From going 1-0 down, to forcing Extra Time and then winning on penalties. Saturday wasn’t good for my ticker! There’s something to be said about a side winning when playing poorly, and we seem to keep finding ways to scrape through despite being at our best.

I can’t wait for the Holland game midweek – one of the highlights as a kid (I can’t believe it was 28 years ago) was that 4-1 win at Euro ’96. I think we’ll beat them in the week and setup a final with Spain on Sunday. The annoying thing is, given the World Matchplay draw, the final will be on whilst I’m on stage for my Blackpool opener! It will be worth it as long as we both bring it home! Fingers crossed!

I’ll be back next week for my full thoughts on The World Matchplay at Blackpool!

Take it easy, Chiz x
