We started June with a winner and repeated the feat in July when Beauty Generation got his head in front for the first time for Ross Burdon Racing, and on grass for that matter, when winning at Nottingham last week.
Ross Burdon Racing: July 8th 2026 Update
After a few solid runs since joining us in the winter, we were hopeful that dropping into a class 6 race on the grass would do the trick and Beauty Generation duly obliged, travelling sweeting behind the pace before Jason Hart found a gap between horses and produced BG perfectly to put the race to bed pretty quickly.
It was an extremely satisfying result, not only did we manage to get the horse to win on grass for the first time but it was also a first winner for the yard for owners Crest Racing, who have been big supporters of ours in the last twelve months and who put faith in myself when I suggested purchasing Beauty Generation, which we did for only £1000 in the Tattersalls Online sale last November. The cheesecake awarded to the yard for having a winner at Nottingham was very well received at the yard!
Ross Burdon Racing: Dusty Cover
This evening (Wednesday) Dust Cover returns to what seems to be his preferred surface on Kempton’s all-weather. Even though I’m convinced he can be as good on turf as he is on synthetic surfaces, his form says otherwise.
We are stepping up in trip by half a mile from a mile and a half to two miles, which can be a big jump in one go, but we’ve felt for a while that Dust Cover would benefit from going up in trip and this seems a logical place to give it a try being a course winner here earlier in the year. If he does run well it certainly opens more doors for the horse, and as long as Jack Mitchell can get him settled early he would have every chance of staying the trip.
Ross Burdon Racing: Huge Saturday
Saturday could be a massive day for the yard as we should be saddling two runners at Ascot. Mesaafi will again contest the five furlong heritage handicap he was third in last year, being beaten only half a length. Last year Mesaafi ran from a mark of 87 when third, where as this year we’ll be running off 82, which may under estimate him as he really should have won at Windsor last time when Jack never got a clean run at all and still finished a tight fourth in a blanket finish.
This year, because we are rated five pounds lower, Jack won’t be able to ride as Mesaafi will likely only have 8st5lbs, which is a real shame because they have a very good record together. Northcliff also has a very good course record at Ascot, winning twice there and placing once from only four starts at the track – the only time he finished out of the placings was when racing on soft ground. He will line up in the concluding seven furlong handicap for his owners Stable Silks Investments and we are hoping he will show improved form returning to a course he likes after possibly finding things happening too quickly at Windsor last time out.
Ross Burdon Racing: Busy Sales
On top of racing we have been busy working the sales at Tattersalls all week, we have both Seventy and High Point selling there and we will be looking for horses to replace them in the yard, which won’t be easy, they’ve won five races and placed a further 6 times between them in the last twelve months.
