Trainer Ross Burdon is back from a quiet week with a huge weekend preview ahead of two runners at Leicester. Read his exclusive preview in his latest column for kwiff.
Ross Burdon Huge Weekend Preview, April 24th 2026
After a quiet week without any runners we are back on track this Saturday with two runners at Leicester. Beauty Generation makes his first start on grass for the team, his previous runs for us coming on the all-weather at Kempton and Wolverhampton.
Ross Burdon Racing: Beauty Generation
Even though he hasn’t won on turf yet his form suggests he is just as happy on the natural surface as he is on a synthetic, having placed at Yarmouth and ran good races at Nottingham and Newbury in his younger days. His turf mark is actually three pounds lower than his all-weather rating, something I am keen to try and exploit as his homework is of a very similar level on the grass and the polytrack. Rossa Ryan, who has the highest strike rate of any jockey at Leicester in the last five years, takes the ride and we’re hopeful of a good run.
BG has been in good form at home since his third place finish at Wolverhampton last time and this race has been the plan for a little while, the stiff nature of the finish should hopefully bring out the best in the horse. We’ve been drawn in stall 11, which could make things tricky as Beauty Generation has a tendency to start slowly, but his gate speed has improved on every run so far for us and I would hope he can jump with the pack and be in a decent position after a furlong or so.
Ross Burdon Racing: King High
Our second runner is Just King High, running back two weeks after his debut for the yard, where it’s safe to say things didn’t go to plan, King reared as the stalls opened, catching jockey Will Carver in the face and missing the break by around ten lengths.
We’re coming back in trip slightly from seven furlongs to six, he shows plenty of speed at home and this stiff six furlongs could prove ideal, though after running without headgear at Southwell, we are re-applying the blinkers he wore on his last start before joining us. The owners won the corresponding race last year with Waistcoat before he moved across town to us and it would be nice if lightning could strike twice for them!
Ross Burdon Racing: Week Ahead
We have a couple of entries early next week, though nothing is certain to run just yet and plans will be determined by how they perform in their work this weekend. Hi Hoh Tonto and Cezarro both have entries at Southwell and both will work on Satruday with a view to them running next week. Cezarro will drop in trip back to a mile after disappointing when we stepped him up to eleven furlongs last month. He isn’t a quick horse by any means, but he travels strongly and I feel we got him wrong by thinking he wants to go further.
Hellcat was our only runner in the last seven days, finishing ninth at Nottingham last Saturday. I was actually very pleased with her run, it was her first start for almost six months and we were very keen to get her onto the track and have a good experience after seemingly boiling over on her final start for her previous trainer. Five furlongs was always going to prove to be too sharp for her but I wanted her to settle during the race and not run freely as she had done last year.
As expected the pace was a little hot for her but she stayed on nicely after looking like she may get left at half way and if you take out the well handicapped winner she wasn’t beaten far at all. she behaved impeccably, something which had been an issue for her as a two year old and Will Carver gave her a lovely ride. Her new owners, Vesper Solis Racing, had a very positive day, as did the filly and we can aim upwards from her and should have a filly to have some fun with this summer.
