Glorious Goodwood 2025: Dave Massey’s Huge Day 3 Tips

Dave Massey is back on Day 3 of Glorious Goodwood 2025 with his best bets, ahead of another day of top class racing on the downs.

Glorious Goodwood 2025: Dave Massey’s Huge Day 3 Tips

Glorious Goodwood 2025: Parole D’Oro (1:20)

Parole D’Oro caught the eye when eighth in the Royal Hunt Cup at Ascot, repeatedly denied a run when trying to make ground from the rear of the field, but the way he finished off once in the clear suggested his turn wasn’t far away. He went to Newmarket for his latest start and for all he seemed to take ages to go through the gears, was able to throw down a challenge to Dutch Decoy late on, going down a neck.

The winner has shown that to be good form, winning again the week after from a 3lb higher mark, and this step up in trip might well suit Parole D’Oro, given he seems to lack an immediate gear over a mile. The booking of Ryan Moore can only be a good thing, and he has plenty going for him here.

Glorious Goodwood 2025: Merchant (2:30)

Merchant is the lowest-rated of these and yet he’s likely to be a short-priced favourite here, I really ought to be advising taking him on, but such is his rate of progress that I’m finding that hard to recommend.  Indeed, given Rahiebb is 8lb better off for 2½ lengths for his York defeat, that alone would give him a chance of reversing the form, but so impressive was Merchant when taking the King George V Stakes (Handicap) at Royal Ascot that I think he will confirm that form.

Second home at Ascot was Serious Contender, who went on to run Lambourn to ¾l in the Irish Derby on his next start, and it just looks an incredibly strong formline.  It’s also worth remembering that at the time, Haggis still had Merchant entered up in the King George, so he thinks he’s Group class, and I think he’s up to this task.

Glorious Goodwood 2025: Wheels of Fire (3:45)

Wheels Of Fire was a non-runner on Tuesday after getting into this slightly easier contest against his own age group, which to me signifies some intent. He’s been pretty consistent this year, ran well here when third in June and was an unlucky loser at Catterick last time out, the door continually shutting on him as he looked for room late. He would have been out of the handicap on Tuesday but that’s not the case here, and Tuesday’s rain won’t be an issue. Stall 12 looks fine.

Glorious Goodwood 2025: Principality (5:30)

Principality ran well over seven furlongs here in May, getting no run until very late and then coming home strongly for a four-length fourth. He ran a similar sort of race at Sandown on his next start, not getting going until too late for third again, and then I’d forgive his latest effort, a slow start meaning he never got into it. It’s worth reminding yourself he won his maiden here very easily last year, so two of his better efforts have been at this track.
