Anticipation ahead of the new season is beginning to reach fever pitch with the start of the 2024-25 campaign now only a matter of days away, and 6 sides battling it out for a Premier League Top 4 Finish.. There promises to be sub-plots galore over the next nine months and the battle for a place in the top four will again be hotly contested. We take an in-depth look at the race for a coveted top-four berth and with it a place in next season’s Champions League.
Premier League Top 4 Finish: The Contenders
Title rivals Manchester City (1.09) and Arsenal (1.16) are clear and away at the top of the betting for a top-four finish in the Premier League and it would be a huge surprise if they didn’t claim two of the spots on offer given they have filled the first two places in each of the last two seasons. Liverpool have finished third and fifth in the last two seasons, but with Jurgen Klopp no longer in charge at Anfield the Reds may struggle to progress this season.
Chelsea are a side almost permanently in transition and it’s hard to have much faith in the Blues joining the top-four party. Tottenham are a bigger price than both Liverpool and Chelsea but it’s hard to envisage why Spurs won’t at least give the pair a run for their money this term.
Premier League Top 4 Finish: Super Spurs
Ange Postecoglou’s men finished fifth last season, just two points adrift of the top four, and they have qualified for the Champions League in five of the last nine seasons. The north Londoners have beefed up their squad with the signing of the excellent Dominic Solanke, who scored 19 Premier League goals for Bournemouth last term, and the 25-year-old has been joined by young star Archie Gray from Leeds.
Tottenham played some excellent, high-tempo attacking football under Postecoglou last season and may have even claimed a top-four position were it not for injuries and suspensions taking their toll towards the end of the campaign. At 2.70, Spurs look an excellent bet to outpoint enough of their top-four rivals this season.
Premier League Top 4 Finish: Dutch Delight
With doubts over Chelsea and Liverpool, Aston Villa juggling domestic duties with a Champions League campaign and Newcastle regressing, Manchester United could step into the top four. The Red Devils will have Luke Shaw and Lisandro Martinez back from injury to shore up their defence, Jadon Sancho, providing he has patched things up with United boss Erik ten Hag, should have been reinvigorated after a successful loan spell at Borussia Dortmund, and there also should be better to come from Marcus Rashford and Rasmus Hojlund this season.
Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro are good additions and they could yet be followed into Old Trafford by a couple more high-class arrivals. With two top-four places potentially up for grabs this season, United could join Tottenham in the Champions League next term.
