The start of the Premier League season is fast approaching and with that comes a series of fascinating top-flight battles. Aside from the title race, European dreams and the job of staying in the Premier League, a whole host of top-level performers will duke it out to claims the Premier League Golden Boot. We have a trio of selections in the race to finish as the Premier League’s top scorer.
Manchester City striker Haaland is looking for a hat-trick of Golden Boot successes and is odds-on to achieve the feat, building on his two Title winning seasons since joining City from Borussia Dortmund. Haaland scored 27 Premier League goals last season and that followed 36 in his debut campaign with Manchester City. Clearly, the Norwegian is a worthy favourite in the top goalscorer market, but it wasn’t all positive last term and at the prices the 24-year-old can be opposed. The Norwegian was critiscised for his form during the middle of the campaign and that, coupled with the increasing pressure for Julian Alvarez to start up front, leaves him vulnerable at the current prices.
Premier League Golden Boot: Jumping Johnson
Brennan Johnson made a big-money move from Nottingham Forest to Spurs in September and the Welshman looks a huge price in the top-scorer market. The 23-year-old has plenty of scope for improvement, but Johnson managed to hit eight goals in his debut Premier League season for Forest.
The Tottenham forward scored five top-flight goals last term, but the Welshman wasn’t always first-choice and Johnson can benefit from Ange Postecoglou’s positive approach. Johnson has been a key part of Tottenham’s forward line in Spurs’ pre-season contests, and whatever success the north London side achieve this season, it’s likely to come from an attacking approach. Teammate Heung-Min Son is more fancied in the market, but Johnson looks a far better value play.
Premier League Golden Boot: Pedro Primed
Joao Pedro is another improving young forward, who can star for a progressive and forward-thinking Brighton side. The former Watford forward notched nine Premier League goals, in an injury-hit campaign last term, and there have to be prospects of improvement with a clear run and that debut Seagulls season under his belt. The 22-year-old is an excellent finisher, good in the air and he may well be Brighton’s regular penalty taker this campaign. There’s a lot to like about Pedro and the top-scorer price is pretty attractive too.
Premier League Golden Boot: Darwin’s Evolution
Prepare for a season of frustration, but Darwin Nunez has to be considered in the top-scorer market. There’s a little uncertainty at Liverpool this term, with Arne Slot taking over from Jurgen Klopp, but there is unlikely to be a move away from an attacking and progressive approach, and even if the Reds struggle to mount a title challenge, they are still likely to score plenty of goals.
Of course, Nunez has frustrated in front of goal, with many opportunities spurned, but the Uruguayan hit 11 Premier League goals last term and it would take only a slight upturn for the 25-year-old to be a serious top-scorer contender.
