The dust has finally settled on this summer’s European Championship and now we can look ahead with our Awesome Antepost Preview 2024/2025 in Europe. Real Madrid, Inter Milan, Paris Saint-Germain, and Bayer Leverkusen are the defending champions on the continent, but can they retain their titles in the upcoming year?
Antepost Preview 2024/2025: Real Madrid to win La Liga
Barcelona may have Euro 2024 sensation Lamine Yamal in their ranks, but Real Madrid won the title by ten points last season and have two stars of their own joining the squad for the upcoming season. Kylian Mbappe is finally a Los Blancos player after years of speculation, while 18-year-old Brazilian Endrick has also arrived in the Spanish capital.
With a squad that already includes Jude Bellingham, Vinicius Junior, Federico Valverde, Rodrygo, Aurelien Tchouameni, and Eduardo Camavinga, it is difficult to see any club getting close to the reigning champions. Couple that with a squad of young, improving players (such as England’s Jude Bellingham) and it looks another formidable proposition for Los Blancos and Don Carlo.
Antepost Preview 2024/2025: Leverkusen to win Bundesliga
Bayer Leverkusen put together an almost perfect season last year to lift the Bundesliga title against all the odds and, while another season as good may be a stretch, they still have the quality to challenge huge favourites Bayern Munich. With Xabi Alonso retained as manager and the Bayer squad remaining intact, they have reason to be confident ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.
Meanwhile, Bayern Munich are looking to recover from a season in which they finished third in the table and 18 points adrift of the winners, while new boss Vincent Kompany’s greatest achievement as a manager was winning the Championship with Burnley. Die Bayern have made some big signings in Michael Olise and Joao Palhinha, but Harry Kane looked jaded in the European Championship and Matthijs de Ligt’s future is still in doubt.
Antepost Preview 2024/2025: Monaco to win Ligue 1
Paris Saint-Germain won a third successive Ligue 1 title last season by a nine-point margin from Monaco, but the loss of Kylian Mbappe makes them far too short in the market. The France talisman has been PSG’s top scorer for the past five seasons and he will be irreplaceable for the French champions. They have not made any major moves in the transfer market, so if Monaco can maintain the level of performance they achieved last season under Adi Hutter they have every chance of making up that nine-point deficit to the Parisiens.
Antepost Preview 2024/2025: Inter Milan to win Serie A
2023/24 third-place finishers Juventus have made some bold moves in the transfer market but defending champions Inter Milan have strengthened their position, too, and there was a huge gulf between the Nerazzurri and the rest of the pack last season.
Simone Inzaghi’s side finished 19 points ahead of city rivals AC Milan and have a squad in the prime of their careers, with Lautaro Martinez, Marcus Thuram, Nicolo Barella, Alessandro Bastoni, Federico Dimarco, and Benjamin Pavard all in their mid-twenties. No side has retained the Scudetto since Juventus in 2017/18, but Inter could break that trend this year.
