Legendary Arsenal Invincibles: Where are they now 20 years later?

Arsenal Invincibles

It has been over 20 years since the Arsenal Invincibles created history,  with their Premier League triumph in 2003/04 is still remembered by many as one of the greatest achievements in football history.

Arsenal Invincibles: Where are the class of 2024 now?

The Gunners became only the second side in English football to go an entire league season unbeaten – after Preston North End in 1988/89 – and the first team ever to do so in a 38-game league campaign. Many of their stars are regarded as some of the best to ever grace the sport. We look at the primary starting 11 for the Gunners and look at where life has taken them since.

Arsenal Invincibles: Jens Lehmann

German shot-stopper Lehmann played every game in the Premier League in the 2003/04 season, conceding just 26 goals in the process. The 55-year-old now works as a pundit and has previously had spells in the backroom of Hertha Berlin and Augsburg in the Bundesliga.

Arsenal Invincibles: Ashley Cole

One of the greatest left backs of all time, Ashley Cole left for Chelsea in 2006 after a successful seven-year stay in north London. The defender can now be found as a coach in the Wembley dugout, where he will support Thomas Tuchel from January.

Arsenal Invincibles: Sol Campbell

Sol Campbell left north London in 2006 to join Portsmouth, returning for a brief spell in 2010, and retired from football in 2011. Since ending his playing career, the 50-year-old has had managerial spells with Macclesfield Town and Southend United and nowadays occasionally appears in the media for punditry work.

Arsenal Invincibles: Kolo Toure

Ivorian Toure moved to Manchester City in 2009 after making more than 320 appearances for Arsenal in all competitions. The 43-year-old had a brief stint in charge of Wigan post-retirement and currently finds himself among the backroom staff at City’s academy.

Arsenal Invincibles: Lauren

Cameroon international Lauren spent seven years at Arsenal between 2000 and 2007, eventually departing for Portsmouth before retiring in 2010 with Cordoba. The 47-year-old is a regular pundit and broadcaster in Spain, where he works on La Liga TV covering the Spanish top flight.

Arsenal Invincibles: Robert Pires

Pires left the club in 2006 after falling down the pecking order, however he is still widely regarded as one of the best to wear the red of Arsenal. The Frenchman is an ambassador for the club and was last reported to be in charge of Spanish lower-league side Pena Deportiva in 2023.

Arsenal Invincibles: Patrick Vieira (c)

Arsenal captain Vieira has been heavily involved in football since ending his playing career in 2011 after spells with Juventus, Inter Milan and Manchester City. The 1998 World Cup winner has managed Nice, Crystal Palace and Strasbourg and currently presides over Genoa in Serie A.

Arsenal Invincibles: Gilberto Silva

Gilberto Silva spent six years at Arsenal between 2002 and 2008, winning five trophies in total with the north Londoners. The Brazilian is currently an ambassador for both the Gunners and FIFA and has previously been part of the expert panels of the BBC’s coverage of the 2022 World Cup.

Swedish winger Freddie Ljungberg did not play many more matches after leaving Arsenal in 2007 before eventually retiring in 2014. The 47-year-old was briefly caretaker manager of the Gunners after Unai Emery’s departure and can occasionally be seen in the media as a pundit.

Arsenal Invincibles: Thierry Henry

Regarded as one of the greatest players of all time, Henry was paramount to Arsenal’s historic season, scoring 30 Premier League goals in 37 appearances.

The Frenchman retired in 2014 after spells with Barcelona and New York Red Bulls and is now a successful pundit, while he also won his first ever managerial honour after receiving the silver medal at the Paris Olympic Games with the French Olympic football team.

Arsenal Invincibles: Dennis Bergkamp

Another one of the greats, Bergkamp’s flair and incomparable technique saw him light up Highbury between 1995 and 2006. The Dutchman was assistant manager at Ajax between 2011 and 2017 and it was reported earlier this year that Bergkamp was looking into purchasing a football team no higher than League One.
