Premier league: The Five Fastest Players to Smash Records and Reach 50 Goals

The Premier League is widely regarded as the best domestic competition in world football, and legends have been created from their goalscoring exploits in the English top-flight. Here we take a look at the five players who have notched 50 Premier League goals in the quickest time: Haaland, Cole, Shearer, Van Nistelrooy, and Salah. All of these players rapidly made their mark in some of the most famous stadiums in football and will never be forgotten.

Premier League:  Haaland

The record for the least games to get to 50 Premier League goals is held by Manchester City forward Erling Haaland, who needed just 48 appearances as a Citizen to reach his half-century.

The Norwegian ace enjoyed a brace on his Premier League debut at West Ham, setting the tone as the fresh focal point of the City attack. The previous record for scoring 50 goals had stood for 28 years until this blond bombshell made merry playing for the dominant team in the division over the last decade.

Haaland scored 36 goals in the 2022-23 Premier League season – the biggest haul anyone has managed in a single campaign.

Premier League: Cole

The man who least enjoyed watching Haaland tear Premier League defences to shreds was Andy Cole, who saw his record destroyed. Cole famously reached 50 Premier League goals when scoring five times for Manchester United in their 9-0 thrashing of Ipswich Town at Old Trafford in 1995.

That was his 65th Premier League appearance. Cole was the first player to score five goals in a Premier League match. This fantastic finisher scored 43 goals in 58 games for Newcastle, before making a big-money switch to Manchester United.

Cole ended his career with 187 Premier League goals, becoming a Manchester United legend.

Premier League: Shearer

One of the best strikers in Premier League history has gone on to become a popular pundit – Alan Shearer is well-known to modern football fans. As a player, this ace marksman scored Premier League goals for Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle.

Shearer was the first player to reach 50 Premier League goals – against Everton in 1994 – in his 66th appearance. He ended his playing career with a staggering total of 260 Premier League goals. Prior to the formation of the Premier League, Shearer notched 23 goals in the English top flight.

Premier League: Van Nistelrooy

Lanky Dutchman Ruud van Nistelrooy became Leicester City manager this season, so he is still heavily involved in the Premier League. As a player, scoring goals in a magnificent Manchester United side, Van Nistelrooy needed 68 Premier League games to reach the 50-goal mark.

Van Nistelrooy’s half-century came against Newcastle in 2003. It was his tenth consecutive game getting on the scoresheet for the Red Devils.

Premier League: Torres and Salah

Two players needed 72 games to score 50 Premier League goals. First, Fernando Torres, wearing the colours of Liverpool, hit his 50th against Aston Villa in 2009.

Another Liverpool star matched Torres when scoring a 50th Premier League goal with a brace against Crystal Palace in 2019 – Mo Salah. The Egyptian ace continues to terrorise Premier League defences and is favourite to win the PFA Player of the Year award for a third time this season.
