Dave Chisnall’s kwiff Diary: Doubles for Dough

It was a kick in the proverbials last week, going out 6-3 to Cristo Reyes in the first round of the Austrian Open last weekend and more doubles than I’d care to remember missed against he big Spaniard. I think it’s fair to say neither of us played that well, but I made 3 of 20 darts at a double which just isn’t good enough.

Dave Chisnall: Double Trouble in Austria

The annoying thing is that they were going in fine in practice the last couple of weeks so I was arriving the past week or so with a bit of renewed optimism for a change. The annoying thing is that the doubles were actually really good in the Pro Tour, taking out an admittedly lucky 110 finish (10 going into the double) and taking out the game earlier with tops tops.

Naturally then, in the bigger tournament the doubles desert me and Cristo goes on and take out a nine darter in his next game! I was glad to see him do well in all honesty, because the trend last year was people playing amazing against me and then going out in the next round – memories of Barney, Woody and Searley) in more or less consecutive Euro Tour events last year.

Dave Chisnall: World Matchplay Goals

I’ve got to try and qualify for the next Euro Tour event, having fallen one out now, since heading down to 25 in the rankings, and it means a busy week with two more Pro Tour events before that. There’s still another two Euro Tour events to hopefully bank some cash – with all roads hopefully leading to Blackpool for the World Matchplay.

I’ve work to do, but I’ve been there every year for the last 15 years and am more motivated than ever to keep my streak alive at The Winter Gardens. I have unfinished business from how bad it went the day of the Euros Final in 2024, and hope to right the wrong either this summer or next!
