PGA Tour Golf Tips: Zurich Classic of New Orleans 2024

Zurich Classic of New Orleans

The PGA Tour stops off at TPC Louisiana this week for the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, the lone two-man event on the schedule, and it promises to be another low-scoring affair in Avondale. World number two Rory Mcllroy will be making his tournament debut – he teams up with Irishman Shane Lowry – while 2022 winners Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele join forces again.

American duo Nick Hardy and Davis Riley claimed the spoils last year, finishing on a tournament team record of -30, and they are aiming to become the first pair to successfully defend the title. This will be the seventh time the tournament has been played as a team event, with fourballs played over rounds one and three, and foursomes used for the second and fourth rounds.

Tip 1: Adam Hadwin and Nick Taylor to win and each-way @ 21.40

Canadian pair Adam Hadwin and Nick Taylor came close to bagging the title last year, finishing on -28 and just two strokes behind winners Hardy and Riley. That mark of -28 would have been good enough to win four of the previous six editions and it was just unlucky that they ran into the inspired US duo, who birdied four of their final six holes to lift the trophy.

World number 29 Taylor returned to the winners’ circle in February when landing the Phoenix Open, while Hadwin has produced some solid results this year with top-five finishes at the Genesis Invitational and the Valspar Championship.

With the Presidents Cup coming up in September, Hadwin and Taylor will be eager to show International Team captain and fellow Canadian Mike Weir what they are capable of as a pair and lock down their spots for the event at Royal Montreal Golf Club.

Tip 2: Tom Hoge and Maverick McNealy to win and each-way @ 19.60

Tom Hoge has been in consistent form this season, racking up five top-20 results and two top-10 finishes, and he has had a couple of decent showings at TPC Louisiana with a 10th and 13th. He partners Maverick McNealy, who is starting to find his rhythm after recovering from injury and picked up a tied-ninth at The Players Championship three starts ago.

Both players should complement one another and it also bodes well that Hoge picked up a team title back in 2022, partnering Sahith Theegala to QBE Shootout glory at Tiburon Golf Club, Naples, Florida.

Tip 3: Vincent Norrman and Jorge Campillo to win and each-way @ 95.00

At bigger odds, it could be worth looking at the pairing of Vincent Norrman and Jorge Campillo, with the latter making his tournament debut. The Spaniard is a reliable player from tee-to-green and he arrives off the back of a T18 finish at the Corales Puntacana Championship, his best result on the PGA Tour this season.

His Swedish partner, Norrman, came ninth on his Zurich debut last year when joining forces with Matthias Schwab, and he will be hoping that experience proves invaluable when teeing it up alongside Campillo.
