Canadian Open Golf Tips 2024: Super Shane to Strike Again

Irish Open 2024

The PGA Tour heads to Canada this week, with a strong field including World Number 2 Rory McIlroy just one of a number of players preparing for the third Major of the year and we have three big priced fancies as part of our Canadian Open Golf Tips.

With the US Open just a couple of weeks away, the biggest names are trying to find top form at just the right time. Hamilton Golf and Country club is the venue for this week’s event, with the Ontario course set to play host for the seventh time. With 500 FedEx Cup points up for grabs, it’s no surprise that four of the world’s top-20 players will be looking to add the 2024 Canadian Open to their list of victories.

Canadian Open Golf Tips: Lowry ready for PGA Tour win number four

Shane Lowry’s recent consistent form has seen him move into the top 10 of the FedEx Cup standings and the Irishman will have happy memories of this event. The European Ryder Cup star finished second in this tournament when it was last held in Hamilton, back in 2019 – finishing seven shots behind Rory McIlroy – when he opened with a 64.

Lowry hasn’t missed a cut in any of his last 10 tournaments and his T6 finish at the PGA Championship was one of six top-25 finishes this season. He already has a PGA Tour title to his name this year, thanks to success alongside McIlroy at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. McIlroy went onto win on his next start in the Wells Fargo Championship (his third success at Qual Hollow) and will surely enjoy a similar bounce factor at a place where the Offaly native is likely to have a big support. He looks the best chance of our three Canadian Open Golf Tips.

Kim is back on track

A poor start to the year looks like it’s now behind Tom Kim, with the youngster starting to recapture the form that brought him three PGA Tour titles in a year. The Korean superstar is back in the world’s top 30 players having recorded four top-30 finishes in his last six starts.

Kim, who ranks 13th for Driving Accuracy on the Tour, was T24 at last week’s Charles Schwab Challenge. Attacking play and low scoring is going to be key this week and the 21-year-old is currently ranked 14th in the Total Birdies, which could prove vital.

Hubbard threatening first PGA success

The last five winners of the Canadian Open have scored -17 or better, with McIlroy carding 258 (-22) when he won at Hamilton in 2019. One man who has shown he can score low this season is Mark Hubbard, who is fifth in the Total Birdies stats going into this event.

The American’s first pro win came in Canada, at the Wildfire Invitational on the PGA Tour Canada back in 2013. Hubbard has not missed a cut in 15 tournaments this year and has recorded top-35 finishes in five of his last eight events – which includes a T26 spot at the PGA Championship. It’s also worth noting that the 35-year-old has shot 67 or better in 10 rounds this year, including a first round 65 at Valhalla in the year’s second Major.
