Racing Post Golf Tips: Andalucia Masters 2024

Andalucia Masters 2024

Following Dan Bradbury’s victory at the Open de France at Le Golf National last week, there are just two tournaments remaining for DP World Tour players to secure their place in the play-offs, including this week’s Andalucia Masters 2024 in Sotogrande.

Andalucia Masters 2024: Expert Tips

The top 70 in the Race to Dubai standings will extend their campaigns and there are also ten much-prized PGA Tour cards up for grabs for those who are not yet qualified. The Real Club de Golf Sotogrande hosts the Andalucia Masters for the second year and it is no surprise to see former Masters champion Jon Rahm as hot favourite on one of his visits from the LIV Tour.

However, there is much to play for at this point of the season and several strong competitors will be going all out to make a big impression.

Andalucia Masters 2024: Olesen Primed

Dane Thorbjorn Olesen has set his sights on retaining his PGA Tour privileges via the DP World Tour after an underwhelming Stateside season, but it looks like a decision that could pay off for the player, who is xx.xx to triumph this week. He is just two places from gaining one of those golden tickets and his form looks strong going into a tournament where he was ninth last year.

Olesen, who tasted DPWT victory in January when he closed out at the Ras Al Khaimah Championship, was 12th at the Irish Open and the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, before he tied for second at Le Golf National last week. Those performances are a far cry from his two US top-20 finishes this year and we can expect big things this week after he had a strong finish 12 months ago despite putting himself under pressure with an opening 73.

Andalucia Masters 2024: Super Smith

England’s Jordan Smith finds himself in a similar position and the two-time DPWT winner, who last triumphed at the 2022 Portugal Masters, looks to be coming good at just the right time. Smith has had a consistent autumn as he has finished 12th at both the British and European masters, seventh at the Irish Open, 18th in a strong field at the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth and 13th in France last week where he will be rueing a second-round 72.

He was 34th at this tournament last year, the first time this course played host, but that performance came after a poor opening 74, so he should still be able to get to grips with the track and represents good value at 26.0.

Andalucia Masters 2024: Winther Warming Up

A little further down the list, Jeff Winther looks well placed to have another strong week as he aims to cement his place in the extended season. His chances of doing that received a massive boost when he placed second in France last week for only his second top-ten finish of the year, but there have been strong signs in the last few weeks after he was 17th at the European Masters and 18th at Wentworth.

Winther followed up a similar performance at Le Golf National last year with sixth at Sotogrande and will feel he has unfinished business after a Sunday 74 ruined his chances of winning 12 months ago, so he could give punters a strong run for their money at 63.00.
