World Masters 2025: Huge Outsiders Fancied in Milton Keynes

Grand Slam of Darts

There are big changes at the PDC World Masters 2025 with the Milton Keynes event taking on a new format.

World Masters 2025: Outsiders Fancied in MK

The competition has been opened up to 32 players, with the top 24 arrowsmiths in the PDC Order of Merit after the 2025 PDC World Championship qualifying automatically for the first round. The other eight spots will be made up of qualifiers from a whole host of preliminary rounds, but that isn’t where the changes end.

It’s set play at the Marshall Arena, with the first-round played over a best-of-five format and it will be the first time the tournament will count towards the rankings. The alterations certainly give a different dynamic to this year’s event, but it’s no surprise to see Luke Littler as the 2.75 favourite. The Nuke was disarmed at the recent World Series event in the Netherlands, but the world champion will have eyes on the revamped Masters prize.

World Masters 2025: High Voltage

Rob Cross’ first-round Masters opponent is yet to be confirmed, with Voltage awaiting one of the eight qualifiers in Milton Keynes, but we do know that the former world champion arrives at the Marshall Arena in top form.  The Kent arrowsmith claimed victory in last week’s Dutch Darts Masters and it was a success where Cross always looked in complete control.

Voltage was pegged back to 5-5, after leading 5-2, by Stephen Bunting in the final, but Cross went on to win that contest 8-5 and it was a similar story in the earlier rounds of the Den Bosch event.  The former world champion downed Richard Veenstra 6-3, Jermaine Wattimena 6-3 and Gerwyn Price 7-3 on his way to the title and it was a pretty serene success for Cross.

Voltage has been housed away from Littler, Michael van Gerwen and Gary Anderson in the Masters draw and there doesn’t seem to be a coherent reason why Cross is available at almost double the price of Bunting and Price.  Voltage looks an excellent bet to follow up his Dutch victory at the Masters.

World Masters 2025: Rock Solid Bet

Josh Rock is another arrowsmith awaiting a qualifier in the first round, but we do know there is potential for a second-round tie with Luke Humphries. Of course, Rocky could have hoped to have avoided a player of Cool Hand Luke’s class, but the chances of the Northern Irishman shouldn’t be dismissed on the account of a clash with Humphries.

Rock won titles on the Pro Tour and European Tour last season and the Antrim ace has developed into a top-level performer.  A big run in a major event is perhaps the missing piece for Rock, but the floor form of the 23-year-old suggests that he isn’t far away.  Rocky was inside the world’s top-16 in terms of Pro Tour averages last season and that level of performance has to be taken seriously. Rock is available at 30.00 for Masters glory and that offer looks to underplay the peak ability of the Northern Irishman.
