Dave Chisnall is back from another disappointing weekend on the Euro Tour as Chizzy seeks to end an unfortunate record of the PDC’s most active of tours. Read on for his exclusive thoughts ahead of today’s tungsten trip for the Swiss Darts Trophy.
Dave Chisnall: Barney’d in Budapest
Where do we start with last week? I’ve complained about my doubles this season, and they’ve been my achilles heel if anything but if I’d have been offered 50% checkout rate heading into this week, I’d have probably taken it!
I had just two darts at a double all games as Raymond Van Barneveld decided to find some of the best form he’s had in years to put on an absolute masterclass in Budpaest. Barney averaged 108 and was quite frankly relentless in some of those legs in the middle portion of the game. He’d be throwing 100-140-140 and it’s borderline impossible to break when throwing that powerfully.
Dave Chisnall: Lady Luck
Again, I don’t want to be making excuses but there’s been times this year where I go full Mario Balotelli and asking myself ‘Why Always Me?’ when bumping into people playing some of their best darts of the season against me. There’s nothing you can do when playing against people at the top of the game, and just hope you get the opportunity to return the favour to somebody else.
Even more annoying, Ray lost his next game 6-2 with an 89 average. But that’s darts. I was out with Ross Smith and Chris Dobey to watch the football on Saturday, where we were watching the Manchester weather and grateful not to in the rain back home! It’s still a privilege to do this for a living, but I need to start adding results to ensure the bandwagon rolls on.
Dave Chisnall: Swiss Darts Open
We’re in Switzerland this week, bidding to end a run of 7 consecutive second round exits on the Euro Tour. I could be playing my Harrows colleague Luke Woodhouse, which should mean fireworks. Luke’s a very good player, and I’d be hoping to better the last all-Harrows game when beating by my good pal Ryan Searle. Again, another game where the other player has played a blinder, although I probably should have taken it to a decider.
My practice has been good this week. I got back late Monday evening, and had a really good practice session on Tuesday. If I can stick to that level, I’ll have a good chance this week. It’s such a big few months career wise for me. I just hope we can bring home something to stick on the mantelpiece before heading to Ally Pally in December.
