Dave Chisnall: Wigan Bound for First Pro Tour of 2025

Dave Chisnall sits down to discuss his recent disappointment at the Winmau World Masters in 2025, and his upcoming trip to Wigan for the first Players Championship events of 2025.

Dave Chisnall: Wigan Bound for First Pro Tour of 2025

It wasn’t a fun first outing on the road this year, with the long trip to MIlton Keynes ultimately for nought and me going out in the first round of the Winmau World Masters. Cam (Menzies) didn’t even have to play great, and I could never get into a rhythm on stage. It will get better, and easier, once the new season gets into the swing of things, but it’s still frustrating all the same.

Dave Chisnall: Flat in Milton Keynes

The atmosphere was bizarre too, and I can’t remember ever playing in front of a flatter crowd for a big TV event. I don’t know whether it was the change of format, with the new two legs to win a set setup, but it just didn’t click down there.

That’s not me being better by the way, folk reading this will know I’m far from a sore loser, but when we played there last year the crowd was rocking. I went out to Michael (Van Gerwen) in the Quarters down there this time last year and remember they were electric in the crowd.

Dave Chisnall: If It Ain’t Broke, Don’t Fix It

I know I sound like a bit of a fossil when moaning about the tinkering of formats, and I get the PDC are under pressure to try and reinvent the wheel, but if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Darts seems to be in a good place at the minute, especially with Luke and ‘The Littler Effect’ seeing so much money coming into the sport.

Sky have just renewed their deal with Sky for another five years, which I imagine will see prize money increase during that time too. Don’t get me wrong, we’re in a very privileged position, and there’s no sour grapes. I know how lucky I am to do what I do for a living.

Dave Chisnall: Wigan Bound

The Players Championship was very good to me last year and I’m looking forward to being able to play in the opening two events, whilst still being able to get into my own bed! Honestly, something like that! My game is in good nick, and I’ve got a good record in Wigan.  I know my results towards the back-end of the season didn’t reflect it, but I thought I was actually playing OK.

I should have done better at The Grand Prix, and was a bit unlucky to go out to Ricky at The Worlds – but will admit The Grand Slam was a write-off. I’m feeling good though, and looking forward to playing darts. Most of the hard work is between the ears, so hopefully the right mindset will go a long way.  I won a lot of cash on the floor 2023/2024, so have a bit of defend to keep myself high up on the Order of Merit. Fingers crossed I can give it a good go!
