Monday Tennis Tips: Andy Schooler’s Best Bets, March 30th 2026

Monday Tennis Tips

Andy Schooler landed a full house of winners in his last tennis preview – here are his latest Monday Tennis Tips ahead of the latest ATP tournaments starting this morning.

Monday Tennis Tips: March 30th 2026

Houston stages the USA’s only ATP claycourt event but the dirt here is not like its European counterpart. It plays much faster and the tournament has produced a roll of honour which you would not expect on clay. Andy Roddick, Ivo Karlovic and John Isner all used their big serves to win here in the past, while more recently both Reilly Opelka and Ben Shelton have triumphed.

Monday Tennis Tips: Smith v Tirante

Smith’s serve is a weapon and it certainly did some damage here 12 months ago when he qualified and then went on to make the quarter-finals of the main draw. He held serve throughout four of his five matches in 2025 so he should have good vibes about returning.

As for Tirante, he’s a decent clay sort but hasn’t played in Houston before and I would not be surprised if he’s a little out of sync with conditions. Throw in Smith’s good form – he won the Cleveland Challenger recently – and I think the American is an underdog worth backing in this fight.

Monday Tennis Tips: Popyrin v Kypson

I shudder at the thought of backing Popyrin to win any match as a 1.52 shot right now – he’s won just two of his last 16 matches and one of the victories came against an unranked Qatari player in Doha. His last three matches have all been straight-sets blowouts.

Kypson looks capable of adding to Popyrin’s woes. His last claycourt outing came in Bogota last May where he won on the Challenger Tour – the altitude conditions there meant the balls came through fast, just as they tend to do here in Houston. That is actually one of five claycourt titles at all levels of professional tennis for Kypson.

Admittedly, Popyrin will be the highest-ranked opponent Kypson has played on clay but the Australian’s form means he’s not playing like a top-50 player at present. In any case, Kypson beat world number six Alex de Minaur only last month for a career-best win and so should arrive here confident of landing the victory at odds-against.

Monday Tennis Tips: Buse v Berrettini

Moving to Marrakech, Buse looks a big price here. Berrettini appears to be being priced up on reputation, including his undoubted ability at a decent altitude which is what we have here in Morocco. Yet the Italian has been well below his best this season and it’s hard to see how he justifies being a 1.42 shot against a player ranked five places higher. Buse actually beat Berrettini in Rio last month where a notable statistic came on the second-serve points won metric. Here, Buse hit 63%, Berrettini only 43%.

Buse went on to make the semis that week, one which also saw him topple local hero Joao Fonseca. Critics will point out that Rio is down at sea level and plays much slower than in Marrakech but Buse has proved his altitude credentials – he was a semi-finalist at Gstaad in the Swiss Alps last summer. The Peruvian has plenty more high-altitude experience and I just don’t see why he’s 2.45 to win this one.
