Dave Chisnall is back with kwiff, discussing a disappointing week on the Euro Tour, as well as three days of Pro Tour action in Leicester. Read his exclusive thoughts in his latest kwiff column.
Dave Chisnall’s Darting Diaries: October 4th 2025
This week was a bit of a disaster, starting with bumping into a rampant Luke Woodhouse on The Euro Tour, missing out on The World Grand Prix by a solitary place, and then losing three successive games on The Pro Tour in the first round. The annoying thing is, rather than playing really poorly, I ran into brick walls in every games.
Regular readers of this column will know I don’t like to make excuses, but I text a friend after losing to Luke Woodhouse on the Euro Tour, a week after the demolition by Barney and losing to averages of 108 and 1100 respectively. I do wonder if I’ve broken a mirror or walked under a ladder at some stage this year because I do feel like a bit of bad luck keeps following us around.
Dave Chisnall: Pro Tour
That was followed up by disaster in the week on the Pro Tour. I went out in the first round on all 3 days, and should have gone through each day. The last day was probably the nail in the coffin, when 4-1 up against Mickey Mansell and still going out. I hit 5 x 180s against Matt Campbell and was 3-0 down early doors, when I should have been 2-0 up.
I missed big doubles in each games, silly darts, and it’s just down to pressure. When you’re not getting results, and you feel like you ought to, it’s in the back of your mind. You have to hit this double. And the more darts you miss, the worse it gets. Darts can be an awful sport when it’s not going your way.
The Euro Tour defeats, 8 consecutive in the second round now I think, and the longer it goes the more it will be on my mind – as much as I’d like to say it isn’t. Missing out on the Grand Prix was a bitter blow because I was really looking forward to it. I breezed through the first round 12 months ago and should have put together a good run but threw some awful darts at a double in the second round.
Dave Chisnall: Finishing 2025
It’s probably the kick up the backside I need to be honest, and after spending the weekend with my family I’m going to be back on that practice board again on Monday. I know I’m better than what I’m showing at the minute, and that’s probably what’s the killer. My scoring has always been really strong, but the doubles when it matters just aren’t clicking. It’s pressure, and I need to find a better way of dealing with it.
The big one is still to come and I’m excited for Alexandra Palace at the end of the year. I was a bit unlucky – according to some – to lose out to Ricky Evans in an all-timer of a game last December and was under the weather when going out to eventual champion Luke Humphries the year before last. I’m determined to put this right and find some form before the end of the season. It’s a matter of if, not when.
Dave Chisnall: World Grand Prix 2025
I’ll be watching bits and pieces of the World Grand Prix without necessarily watching all of the darts this week in Leicester. I’ll be watching when my mates play, and I think Steve (Bunting) has a good chance there. (Luke) Littler is box office and I’ll be watching him every game. He’s the new face of darts and I, like many others, will be glued to see how he gets on in the double in/double out format.
My practice has been good this week. I got back late Monday evening, and had a really good practice session on Tuesday. If I can stick to that level, I’ll have a good chance this week. It’s such a big few months career wise for me. I just hope we can bring home something to stick on the mantelpiece before heading to Ally Pally in December.
