Thursday Racing Tips: Warwick, Lingfield and Naas

Huge Saturday Tips

A feast of Thursday racing action is in store across Britain and Ireland with no fewer than six meetings taking place. Jumps action comes from Warwick, Clonmel, Southwell and Naas alongside all-weather cards from Lingfield and – in the evening – Wolverhampton. We’ve picked out three Thursday Racing Tips for Thursday’s cards.

Lingfield 13:50 – Masterclass

Look out for MASTERCLASS in the opener at Lingfield, a 6f apprentice handicap in which Connor Planas takes the ride for trainer David Simcock. The Lethal Force gelding was second-best at Southwell 15 days ago over this trip, making a rock-solid late charge to be clear in that spot having been stone last at halfway.

Course specialist Jeans Mate established a handy lead as soon as they left the starting gates and the frontrunner never looked like being caught, though Masterclass rattled home well to make up plenty of late ground. He’s been nudged up 1lb for that showing but, on just his third start at the trip, is not yet exposed and looks capable of picking up a race of this nature before long.

Warwick 15:55 – Yellow Jacket

Trainer Donald McCain will be hopeful that YELLOW JACKET can notch a second win in his last three outings when he goes in the Watch On Racing TV Novices’ Handicap Chase over two-and-half-miles at Warwick. The seven-year-old got off the mark on his fifth start over fences at Bangor (2m1½f, heavy) in late February despite coming under pressure a good way from home. He found plenty for the urgings of claimer Peter Kavanagh and they did well to fend off stablemate Malpas in the closing stages.

The first-time tongue-tie sported in that win was retained next time at Huntingdon and a credible second was the outcome. A couple of fences were omitted there and, allied to a slight drop in trip, it might not have been ideal. The third home, Ferrybridge, scored easily back at Huntingdon since and the form looks solid. Yellow Jacket races over this extended trip for the first time over fences and, from an unchanged mark, may well relish it.

Naas 16:15 – The Derry Girl

It’s the conclusion of the National Hunt season at Naas and their afternoon card has attracted some bumper fields, including a maximum 25-runner line-up for this handicap hurdle over 2m2½f. Last-time-out winners Hillsdale and Jouster are players but another that won on her most recent appearance is THE DERRY GIRL.

That win came last summer at Worcester in a Mares’ Maiden Hurdle in what proved her first and only start for trainer Fergal O’Brien. She’s back in Ireland now and makes her handicap debut off a mark of 97, going back up in trip having twice contested bumpers over 2m4f at Wexford last summer before making the move to Gloucestershire. If she’s ready to hit the ground running for Eamonn Sheehy, this mark could be exploitable.
