Hector Crouch: Saturday Runners at Wolverhampton

It was a bit of a frustrating week, with Monday in particular seeing some potentially good chances just not fire, but we had a nice winner at Kempton midweek, in a brilliant training performance from Michael Bell with Duke of Oxford.

Saturday Runners: Havana Sky (4.30)

Speaking of training performances, it was around this time last year where Ed Dunlop got Havana Sky (4.30) into a great run of form, completing a fiver-timer the day after Boxing Day at Wolverhampton. All five victories came over six furlongs, but he’s a bit older now and perhaps doesn’t have the same speed he had last season.

He has won twice since then, from marks of 65 and 67, and would need a career best to score today (from a mark of 70) but was beaten less than a less from the same mark over course and distance last month and looks poised to go close.

Saturday Runners: Woodhay Whisper (8.00)

Another filly who has the potential to put a string of good efforts together is Woodhay Whisper (8.00) who narrowly failed to defy a penalty here last weekend. It was a big of a rough race and she didn’t get the smoothest of passages so life should be a lot simpler touchwood on Saturday night from stall two. She should have no bother carrying the weight and should be too good for these if turning up in a similar mood.

Saturday Runners: I Can Imagine (8.30)

The yard of Jack Jones have been in good form since returning from last month’s break (5 winners from the yard’s last 15 runners) and I think the filly I Can Imagine (8.30) can  build on a couple of placed efforts here over the minimum trip. She has ran well in defeat and was a bit unlucky to lose by a length last time out over five furlongs. I was on board that day and immediately thought she would improve for stepping up in trip. Providing we can navigate a passage from stall nine (of eleven) I think she’s got a very good chance to get her head in front.
