Ruth Jefferson: Listed Success and Aintree 2025 Plans

Ruth Jefferson

Ruth Jefferson is back to discuss listed success last weekend at Kelso, and upcoming plans for Lavida Avida and Sounds Russian later in the spring. Read below for her exclusive kwiff preview.

Ruth Jefferson: Lavida Avida

Last weekend meant a lot, and it was great to get ‘The Diva’ some black type success last weekend. She travelled like a dream at Kelso, and loved the step up in trip. I think we have to keep her over three miles now, as she absolutely loved it. There were questions about her getting tired when fluffing the last, but I don’t think so at all. She was just having a look around when in front.

The handicapper has raised her 6lb to 126 for that success, so we’ll look to try and win another handicap before the end of the season. We’ll look for Scottish National day at Ayr, or we could go back to Cheltenham’s April Meeting.

She’s quite the enigma, because she’s borderline untrainable at home. It takes her 5 days to calm down after being schooled at home. You have to go at her own pace. She’s a bit of a madam, but she’s so talented. We’re learning all the time with her. She’s the sort of horse you could easily ruin, because she’s so stubborn, but we’ve been patient with her and been flexible. I’m glad it’s worked out so well, because of the hard work put into her by all the team here.

Ruth Jefferson: Aintree

We’ll probably just have one runner next week at Aintree with Sounds Russian entered in both the 3m Hurdle and the 3m Handicap Hurdle. If the race cuts up then he will go for the Grade 1 and, with just 3 weeks between Cheltenham and Aintree, there’s a good chance a lot of the runners from the Stayers’ Hurdle don’t make the trip. I’ll be checking on Thursday morning and be leaving the decision as late as possible. He’d want a bit of juice in the ground, so there’s a good chance you see me doing a rain dance at Newstead Stables in the week.

Ruth Jefferson: Upcoming Entries

We have two in the 3m Novices’ Handicap Chase with both Mobile Mamma and Cindy (Giveupyerualdsins) likely to go to Newcastle next week. You can put a line through the last run of Giveupyerauldsins because she never went a yard last time out at Musselburgh. She hated the first-time head-gear so we’ll leave that off going forward. Mobile Mamma will have Jamie Hamilton on board and is in good form at home. Fingers crossed both run well.
