Dave Massey is back with his Royal Ascot Best Bets ahead of the 5th and final day of Royal Ascot 2026.
Royal Ascot Best Bets: Dave Massey’s Saturday Preview
Royal Ascot Best Bets: West Wind Blows (3:05)
The bet, if there is one, might be the consistent West Wind Blows (3.05) each-way. His simple from-the-front runstyle means his draw is somewhat irrelevant, and he made Kalpana work for her Aston Park win at Newbury last time. The weights greatly favour Kalpana today, which is why we’re getting the price we are, and after missing 2024, he looks as good as ever this season. Comments suggest he keeps getting lucky from the front and outruning himself but there’s only so many times you can do that before you have to acknowledge he’s a very good horse in his own right.
Royal Ascot Best Bets: Khaadem (3:40)
The each-way poke at a huge price has to be old Khaadem (3.40), winner of this in 2023 and 2024 (and yes, this is a lot stronger this year, I understand that) who loves to hear his hooves rattle, has a decent draw to work from in stall 14 and is the perfect hold-up ride for Soumillion. Good to soft ground at Haydock last time would have been no use to him at all; 50s and bigger four places looks worth taking. (Some 66s around as I type!)
Royal Ascot Best Bets: Andab (4:20)
With JOB having such a week, Andab has to be worth a mention at 33s in the first-time visor; the stats say the trainer is 3-12 using it first time in the last two years (two others placed) and that’s for a level stakes profit of £71 to a tenner. Andab’s consistency makes him interesting anyway, and a drop back to a fast-run seven (which this should be) could be ideal. Just needs some luck in running coming through the pack (and we haven’t had a lot of that, this week…)
Royal Ascot Best Bets: Apoloo One (5:00)
Apollo One (5.00) hasn’t yet hit top form but stall 31 could be the absolute plum draw, and for one with form figures of 827 in the race, it doesn’t take a genius to out that much like Ebt’s Guard in the Hunt Cup, he looks the one that will run his race, perhaps without quite being good enough, but will give you an each way return. In fact, given Soumillon is on board again, why not try the each-way double with Khaadem in the Jubilee? If both get placed, it’s party time…
