Christmas is around the corner and the Ross Burdon Racing team have a big week of runners to look forward to before the festive break.
Ross Burdon Racing: Festive Season 2025
The horses have been in very good form recently, since mid October we have only had two horses finish outside the first four, with three winners in that time, something we can all be proud of and something we will aim to keep up until the end of the year. If we could reach double figures for winners before the end of 2025 that would be a great milestone to reach in our first season.
Our busy period starts tomorrow at Lingfield, where Seventy makes his debut for the yard having been bought at the October Horses in Training sales by his new owners, The Unlucky Rovers. Seventy was previously trained by Richard Hannon where his best run came at Kempton, finishing a close up fourth over tomorrow’s trip of twelve furlongs.
Ross Burdon Racing: Super Seventy
What ever Seventy does tomorrow I expect he will improve from, he is in good form but I would imagine the track might not be ideal for him being relatively tight. Phoebe Edwards takes what will be her first official ride for us as yard apprentice having joined us full time recently after building up a good relationship with Ernie’s Valentine.
Ross Burdon Racing: Thursday Thoughts
On Thursday we will be represented by runners at both Southwell and Chelmsford. Dust Cover returns to Southwell after winning there four weeks ago and will again be ridden by Jack Mitchell. The second placed horse from last month,
So Alex, has won twice and gone up 15lb in the handicap since they met and I hope Dust Cover can prove the win was no fluke and confirm the form of that win. Jack will have to navigate a path from the widest stall to do so, being in 14 of the 14 runners. The biggest danger to Dust Cover will most likely come from Damascus Steel, who chased home So Alex last time at Wolverhampton.
Ross Burdon Racing: Mesaafi
After Southwell’s afternoon meeting we will be heading to Chelmsford for their evening meeting where Mesaafi will line up in the new Timeform Sprint Series Final. Mesaafi has good course form, winning a Sunday Series race there in the summer and recently finishing fourth in a qualifier for this final. As one would expect the race looks highly competitive with good prize money on offer for the grade of race.
The second and third from the qualifier Mesaafi was fourth in both re-oppose, with Charlie Mason and Emperor Spirit now 4lb and 2lb worse off at the weights with our horse than they were back in October. There looks a likely strong pace, with Emperor Spirit, Giant and General Assembly all confirmed front runners and hopefully Mesaafi can slot in behind them and use their pace to aim at in the latter stages.
Ross Burdon Racing: High Point Hurdling
On Sunday we look to break new ground by saddling our first runner over jumps, with High Point lining up in a two and a half mile maiden hurdle race at Fakenham. High Point stays very well on the flat, winning over 1m6f at Haydock in the summer and hopefully he can translate that stamina to his new discipline.
Despite not being the biggest, High Point’s schooling has been pretty good, he’s quite clever at his hurdles and doesn’t lack any bravery. I had my first ride as a conditional jockey at Fakenham, so it will be quite fitting to saddle my first jumping runner there, although I hope I have better success training there than I did riding!
Ross Burdon Racing: Our Boy Ernie
Our final runner before Christmas will be Ernie’s Valentine, who will most likely run at Lingfield on Monday afternoon. I had hoped to run him on Monday at Wolverhampton but hes rated slightly too high for the mile race there and so will drop to seven furlongs at Lingfield instead. Hes very capable over both trips, although I do think hes better over a mile these days. Phoebe will be back in the saddle after Darragh Keenan deputised two weeks ago while Phoebe’s license was being changed over.
The whole team at RB Racing would like to thank everyone for their support throughout 2025 and wishes everyone a very merry Christmas!
