Punchestown Tips: Cathryn Fry’s Huge Day 3 Preview

Punchestown Tips

As mild temperatures hit County Kildare, Punchestown are continuing to water. The going is officially yielding but with the weather as it is, it is drying up as the tape rise and the day goes on.

Punchestown Tips: Cathryn Fry’s Day 3 Preview

We’re on to day three, already. As always there are the end of season surprises and superstars like Il Etait Temps stamping their place amongst the greats.  Bets for Thursday:

Punchestown Tips: Busselton (3:40)

Last years winner Bussleton is now in the care of Enda Bolger (from Joseph O’Brien). It’s hard to believe that he’s only nine as he seems to have been around forever! Back in 2022, he won the Kerry National. He mixes chasing, hurdling and banks, all while maintaining his form. At the beginning of the month, he had a nice little spin out at Cork, over a trip too short. Blinkers are retained.

Punchestown Tips: Minella Sizo (4:15)

At Cheltenham, the plot that was Minella Sixo didn’t unfold as predicted. However, this race looks like an ideal opportunity to make amends. With Jack Kennedy taking over in the saddle, it would be no surprise to see him vastly outperform his odds. Any realistic chance at the Festival was left at the start. Minella Sixo is proven around three miles and versatile regarding conditions, although a sounder surface, may help bring out the best in him. His mark looks workable, he had been returning to form beforehand, and he remains an interesting prospect going forward.

Punchestown Tips: Birdie or Bust (4:50)

Birdie or Bust (4.50) likely needed the outing when finishing well down the field in a Listed novice handicap chase at Fairyhouse last time, having been in solid form back in October. Cheekpieces are applied for the first time, plus, he is proven over 2 miles to two and a half miles, with decent ground very much in his favour. Spring conditions should suit and he looks capable of leaving that latest run behind.

Punchestown Tips: Jimmy Du Seuil (6:05)

I find the placing of last years Coral Cup winner Jimmy De Seuil intriguing here. He’s been chasing, with mixed success. His run in the Willow Warm Gold Cup (Gr1) at Fairyhouse last time out was decent. He looked like a step up in trip will suit and there’s stamina on the dam side up to three miles. Connections have always seen him as a grade one performer. The switch back to hurdles is a plus, in my mind, anyway! Best of luck for day three!
