Horse Racing on ITV: A Thrilling Boxing Day 2024

Horse Racing Tips

Horse Racing on ITV: Kempton, Wetherby & Aintree, December 26

The Christmas period is in full swing, and the most significant race on Boxing Day is the King George VI Chase at Kempton (2.30), which was won by Shark Hanlon’s stable star Hewick last year.

For punters, Wetherby’s Rowland Meyrick Handicap Chase is the big puzzle and it could have an influence on some of the big spring handicaps ahead.

Here we look at some of the major races on Boxing Day’s ITV cards, how they might have an impact in the coming weeks and months and how you might go about finding some winners.

The Sam Thomas-trained RANGE looked really good when mopping up a 2m3f handicap chase at Chepstow when last seen, which made up for his fall at the track on his penultimate outing. Strong in the betting, he jumped particularly well and made all in the manner of a well-handicapped horse. Effectively only 5lb higher here, he holds every chance.

William Hill Formby Novices’ Hurdle

POTTERS CHARM maintained his unbeaten tag when impressively landing a 2m5f Cheltenham Grade 2 by 11 lengths last month and Nigel Twiston-Davies’ inmate will take all the beating again. Admittedly, the form of that contest hasn’t worked out at all, but he couldn’t have won it any easier. He looks like a horse with a huge future.

Ben Pauling is sounding very bullish about the chances of THE JUKEBOX MAN, who is bidding to follow up his Grade 2 chasing debut success at Newbury over 2m4f last month. Despite doing plenty wrong, with jumping errors and hanging out to his left in the closing stages working against him, he idled in front and did it well. The step up in trip can only help.

William Hill Rowland Meyrick Handicap Chase

Tom Lacey’s CRUZ CONTROL could end up taking his chance in the Grand National at Aintree in April, but in the meantime he should be well up to landing this valuable pot. He won a novice hurdle around here in the past and has since won three handicaps over fences, latterly when getting the double up at Aintree off 136 in April. He needed the blowout at Aintree on return and will be sharp now.

Ladbrokes Christmas Hurdle

It has been a long time between drinks but finally we are set to see the incredible CONSTITUTION HILL back in action on Boxing Day and who could bet against Nicky Henderson having his stable star back to himself for this fascinating Grade 1 clash. If he is anywhere close to his best, he will win this at a canter.

Horse Racing on ITV: 2.30 Kempton

Ladbrokes King George VI Chase

The extra furlong and a bit caught GREY DAWNING out when just run out of it by Royale Pagaille in the closing stages of the Betfair Chase, but compensation awaits dropping back in trip on a track that will suit. Dan Skelton’s charge was an impressive winner of the Turners last season and this has probably always been the main target.
