Huge Saturday Racing Tips: February 14th 2026
It would appear Moveit Like Minnie has finally put his party tricks behind him now, with no signs of the runouts or refusals that seemed to dog him back in 2024 and after another very solid effort here at Ascot last time out, he might be about ready to strike.
Saturday Racing Tips: Moveit Like Minnie (Ascot, 2.25)
Although only third to Came From Nowhere, the winner is very progressive and second home Tripoli Flyer has always been held in very high regard, so I’m fine with that form. It’s not his only good effort at Ascot this season either, Moveit Like Minnie having finished third to Alexei, who will be hoping to enhance his Champion Hurdle claims at Wincanton on Saturday, back in November.
In fact, for all he hasn’t won in seven starts at Ascot he’s barely run a bad race here, and he looks pretty much nailed on to run his race again under Tom Bellamy, having a very good season and riding at a level better than he has done for some while.
Saturday Racing Tips: Your Darling (Ascot, 3.00)
Backing Your Darling (3.00) comes with its own risks, as he doesn’t always find what you think he’s going to do when push comes to shove, but this soft ground will suit him well – his best effort to date came on it at Uttoxeter last May, and he’s twice won around here on good to soft ground too, so conditions should be ideal.
He really ought to have won at Kempton last time, looking to have the measure of favourite The Doyen chief, but he once again found a way to pull defeat from the jaws of victory, hitting the last fence and allowing the winner to get his head back in front. Only put up a pound for that, which looks fair, and looks solid each-way material for a bet.
Saturday Racing Tips: Lon Chaney (Hay, 2.40)
Ubatuba has looked impressive enough in wins at Leicester and whilst a step up to three miles and soft ground might well suit, the form hasn’t worked out particularly well and he news to find more under Ben Sutton today. However, Olly Murphy’s other runner, Lon Chaney (2.40), was impressive when defeating Inishcorker at Uttoxeter on New Year’s Eve, the three-mile trip looking a positive step up, sometimes off the bridle but never stronger than at the finish, and he gave the impression there was a lot more to come.
That run came on soft ground and I don’t think he’d mind if conditions actually deteriorated, given stamina looked his strong suit that day, and if the likes of Dalston Lad and Legendary Luke get themselves embroiled in a duel for early supremacy on the front end, so much the better his chance later on.
Saturday Racing Tips: Richmond Lake (Hay 3.15)
It sort-of goes without saying that these long distance handicap chases are, in their own way, the parallel of those top-quality six-furlong handicaps you get on the Flat where the same horses rock up time and again, taking their turns to beat each other depending on ground and draw. Whilst there’s no draw here, the gruelling trip gives these warriors plenty of time to think about things, and whether they fancy it or not, and as such, you often get a different result most times they meet.
Those backing Myretown here will be hoping that the Lucinda Russell/Michael Scudamore yard can start finding winners again – four weeks and counting at time of writing – and for all he has the talent, he also has the propensity to make a mistake, as was the case here last time. All in all, he can be swerved at around 4-1.
Maybe Richmond Lake (3.15) is worth a try. He often looks like he might be well suited by an extreme stamina test, often outpaced at a key time before staying on to challenge late, and there was nothing wrong with his neck second to Imperial Saint here last time out, rallying very gamely again after the last. Connections won this with Famous Bridge last year before he lost the race at a later date (banned substance found) and they’ll be keen to make amends.
Git Maker was fourth in this last year (later promoted to third) when he never looked like winning but kept at it all the way up the straight; his efforts since have been lacking, but he’s just the sort to respond to the first-time blinkers. Something of an all-or-nothing bet, but no surprise if he bounced back to form.
