Hector Crouch Weekend Preview: Friday Rides
It was nice to see Cape Orator get his head in front again on Arc Weekend in Paris – he’s a really classy animal and will now be looking at another step up in class. He’s got potential destinations in mind and could go to America or France but just Saturday in isolation is great and it was great for connections to have 3 winners on a busy weekend.
I’m a busy boy at Kempton and She Commands (6.15) should improve from her debut in the Mile Maiden. She ran better than the result when fifth at Sandown in ground softer than ideal and, with likely improvement from races one to two, she should run well.
Caspian King (7.15) is well-handicapped to go well for the David Menusier yard. He didn’t look to suit the course when down the field at Sandown, but before that was an excellent third in a warm handicap at Chelmsford and reapplication of that performance should see him go close.
Hughie Morrison’s Kingkeer (7.45) can be a bit of a monkey but is very talented and I’m hoping the first-time visor can unlock the key to him in the handicap over a mile and a half. Hughie has said to not let him rest on his laurels, so we may try a change of tactics and be more prominent than usual. I still think there’s a good level of ability there.
Hector Crouch Weekend Preview: Saturday Rides
I take the trip up to York for a good book of rides touchwood, starting with David Simcock’s Rydale Frosty (1.30) in The Rockingham Stakes. If you were to look at this field, it could almost pass for a handicap with not little between the entire field. My lad disappointed here in a 5f Handicap but is a proper six furlongs horse and should be much better suited by the trip.
We’ve always thought a lot of Albany (2.05) who for whatever reason has never really shown it on a racetrack yet. She was last of six last time out at Haydock with me on board but I wouldn’t take any notice of that run – they went no pace at all and she hated the way the race panned out. With a good, strong gallop she’d have a chance based on her second here over course and distance earlier in the season.
We thought a lot about Joulany (3.55) and he was unlucky to bump into one on debut at Kempton. The Godolphin horse has since followed-up stepped up in grade, and the 3rd and 5th have both won on their subsequent starts. He’s a lovely horse that could be very, very good. I’d be very surprised if he were to be beaten on Saturday.
Michael Bell’s Let’s Dream (5.05) would have a great chance if able to replicate his Chester form at York – but that’s a big if. He has been a model of consistency this term, and will love the trip. Hopefully he can be there or thereabouts in the frame.
