Hector Crouch: Weekend Rides, May 2025

It was nice to steer Lady Vivian to victory at Chester on Thursday. She’s a nice filly, who made life very simple for me. With the runner-up due to take a hike in the handicap midweek, it looks like we’ll be on the hunt for a bit of black type for her now. She can hopefully be capable of running well upped in class over a mile and a half.

Plenty messaged me about the interview my Grandad gave after the race – especially his exchange with Hayley Moore on Sky Sports Racing! He’ll come racing whenever I’m up north, so the likes of Chester, Haydock etc are all round the corner from him. He’s always the sharpest dressed man on the course and he’s one of my biggest fans. It’s always nice to ride a winner whilst he’s there!

Hector Crouch: Friday 9th May 2025

I am at Ascot on Friday for two rides starting with Society Kiss (2.20) in the Maiden Fillies’ Stakes over the minimum trip. Ralph’s horses are going well at the minute and she looks to have a good, speedy pedigree to go really well on today’s ground. Fingers crossed she goes close to making a winning debut.

My other ride is the consistent Mollie Foster (4.00) for the in-form yard of Ed Walker. She is a genuine sort who ran a blinder to finish second behind a really nice horses of Ralph’s in the big sales race in Ireland – and looks well treated from a mark of 82 based on that alone. The winner that day went onto finish third upped in class later in the season and is now rated a stone higher. She’s not races on anything quicker than good before and it looks good-to-firm ground at Ascot, so providing she handles the ground she must have a good chance.

Hector Crouch: Saturday 10th May 2025

I have fond memories of this card 12 months ago, having rode subsequent Irish Oaks winner You Got to Me to victory in the Lingfield Trial, befroe success at The Curragh a few weeks later. There’s no ride in The Oaks Trial this year but I’m looking forward to sitting on Prince of the Seas (3.00) in The Lingfield Derby Trial.

He lost all chance last time out at Epsom when bumped at the start in what turned out to be a very messy race. He’s got a lot of ability, and I expect I’ll ride him a lot handier this time around. Elsewhere, I ride stablemate Power of Destiny (2.25) in the Mile and Half Handicap for King Power Racing.  She was a narrow loser in the Winter Oaks when beaten a head back in January, and ran well at last year’s Glorious Goodwood meeting when I got the better of her aboard Al Anound in a 1-2 for the yard over a mile and a quarter. She stays well and the mile and a half trip should suit.

Gincident (1.50) has improved bundles since moving to trainer James Owen and after meeting in trouble on his last couple of starts can hopefully return back to winning ways stepped up in trip to a mile and a quarter. He looked good when scoring at Leicester and looked too keen to get home when a beaten favourite at Wolverhampton and Yarmouth subsequently. If I can get him to switch off and relax he looks to have a great chance at around the 6/1 mark.

Sergio Parisse (4.10) has performed well over the winter on the all-weather and looks well-treated back on the turf from a mark of 77. His maiden success at Windsor last season has worked out well, and he should be suited by the step up in trip to seven furlongs. My Awelle (4.45) goes in the closing 5f Handicap and is just 2lb below his last winning mark. If he handles the quick ground he should have a great each way chance.
