Baileys Ontherocks (5.00) would be an apt winner for this time of year in the 6f Nursery for trainer James Tate. He goes well on the surface and is getting the hang of it, albeit being a maiden still after five starts. The handicapper has taken a few pounds off and this, coupled with the step up in trip, gives him a chance.
Stablemate Kullazain (5.30) is another that has been given a chance by the handicapper, having started the season running in group company on the flat. He has been tried in both a hood and a visor on this last two starts but he didn’t look to appreciate either, and well drawn from a career-low mark. You can write-off the run last time out at Newcastle over 7f, and the drop back in trip and removal of the hood should both suit.
Hector Crouch: Lingfield Rides
I’ve a good couple of chances at Lingfield on Wednesday touchwood, starting with Ollie Sangster’s well-bred filly Cryingintherain (12.30) in the 6f Novice Stakes. She made a promising debut and learnt plenty from that when fifth at Lingfield over the minimum trip. She was forced wide and didn’t get the rub of the green that day but will have learnt plenty and can I see her appreciation the extra furlong also.
Woodhay Whisper (3.30) has gone up 10lb since I won aboard her last month at Wolverhampton, and has ran well in defeat subsequently with a pair of runner-up efforts over course and distance before fourth last time out when drawn in the car park. She’s got a good draw this time and there should be plenty of pace in the race, which should suit her. She’s in good heart at the minute and is sure to be there or thereabouts.
