Hector Crouch: Super Jockey’s Update, Feb 14th 2025

Weekend Racing Preview with Hector Crouch

It’s been a quiet time of things for Hector Crouch, with the Gp1 winning jockey itching for the start of the new flat turf season next month.

Hector Crouch: Jockey’s Update, Feb 14th 2025

It’s been a quiet time of things, and I’ve been enjoying some nice, quiet time at home the last week or so, and had a day off on Valentine’s Day – lucky Lydia! I rode a nice winner on Marvellous Lady at Wolverhampton midweek, who has a good chance to follow-up under a penalty.

Hector Crouch: High Court Judge (Newcastle, 4.55)

It’s good to be back on board my old pal High Court Judge at Newcastle on Saturday, and I hope he makes the near nine-hour round trip worthwhile. He won a handicap from a mark of 46 last month at Wolverhampton, and followed-up in handicaps at Southwell, Lingfield and Wolverhampton subsequently.

It’s very rare for horses to complete a five-timer on the all-weather but this lad is flying at the moment and I’m hopeful of him making it five on the bounce. It’s some ask from a 19lb higher mark, but it looks a winnable race and the James Owen yard continue to fire in the winners.

Hector Crouch: Diamondonthehill (Lingfield, 1.52)

Diamondonthehill is a nice horse for the Newland/Insole team after a couple of recent placed efforts, and should be competitive looking to complete the famous Ted Rogers (3-2-1) at Lingfield. He’s improved from the switch from former trainer Michael Dods and with further progression likely he can hopefully make it 4th time lucky for new connections.

Hector Crouch: Brinton (Lingfield, 3.22)

These Classified Stakes races can be a bit of a puzzle but Brinton looks to have a good chance at shedding the maiden tag at the 11th time of asking. He arrives in good form and can hopefully give a good account for trainer Jonathan Portman.

Hector Crouch: Come on John (Lingfield, 4.22)

Come on John has been the model of consistency all winter but blotted his copybook last time out and needs to bounce back in the first division of the ten furlongs handicap. He never went a yard last time out at Southwell, but previously had been in good form and with a line through that can bounce back from a revised mark of 52.

Hector Crouch: Marvellous Lady (Lingfield, 4.52)

I won on Marvellous Lady three days ago and think he can defy a penalty in the closing handicap. She wouldn’t have the pace to make up the ground from far back, so we’ll probably look to be handy on her from the less than ideal draw in stall nine. Fingers crossed we get away and be prominent early.
