It’s under two weeks until the start of Euro 2024 and a super summer of international football, starting with a raft of international friendlies this week. Europe’s elite will be trimming their squads ahead of the action in Germany and it’s the final chance to put plans on the pitch with two friendly matches before the tournament gets underway on June 14. There are a batch of seven interesting international friendlies on Tuesday and we have a trio of tasty wagers.
Hungary can continue excellent run
It’s 14 games without defeat for Hungary and Marco Rossi’s men look the best bet on Tuesday’s international card. The Magyars head to the Aviva Stadium in Dublin to take on the Republic of Ireland after topping their Euro 2024 qualifying group and dominating the line up containing Serbia, Montenegro, Lithuania and Bulgaria.
Clearly, Hungary will have eyes on Germany this close to the tournament, but Rossi has built a spirited and robust side and it’s difficult to see Ireland getting anything out of this contest, even if the Magyars motivation isn’t peaking. The Boys in Green lost six of their eight Euro 2024 qualifiers, they have left the inexperienced and unproven John O’Shea in charge and it’s a squad that is severely lacking in quality.
O’Shea’s men failed to score a single goal in two friendlies against Belgium and Switzerland in March and the two leading scorers in the current Ireland squad are veteran defenders Shane Duffy and Robbie Brady. Hungary look great value to beat Ireland and extend their excellent run of form.
Tuck into tasty Turkey offer
Turkey have won 12 of their last 20 matches, they finished top of their Euro 2024 qualifying group and Vincenzo Montella’s men have been good enough and robust enough to travel to Croatia and take three points. It hasn’t always been plain sailing for the Crescent-Stars, but the Turks are integrating some talented young players into their squad and with that can always come a little inconsistency.
However, at the prices, Montella’s men look an excellent bet to upset Italy. The defending European champions have lost a lot of quality, leadership and stability, with manager Roberto Mancini and defensive duo Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci departing the international stage, meaning that Luciano Spalletti’s squad will barely resemble the one that ruled Europe three years ago.
International Friendlies: Romania ready to fire
Romania have made quiet progress on the international stage and Edward Iordanescu’s men were excellent when going unbeaten in their ten Euro 2024 qualifying matches. Tougher tests await the Tricolour in Germany, but Tuesday’s clash with Bulgaria looks an excellent opportunity to find their goalscoring touch.
The Lions were tailed off at the bottom of their qualifying section, failing to win a single game and conceding 14 goals along the way and they are likely to be dominated by a Romania side who play a progressive possession-based game.
