Team, goalscorer and props bet – Andy Schooler is back with his three regular Premier League Tips for the pre-Christmas round of fixtures in the top flight.
Andy Schooler’s Premier League Tips: Dec 19th 2025
Chelsea being fairly firm favourites for this one doesn’t sit right with me. You can point out Newcastle have been rather up and down this season and were certainly disappointing against Sunderland last weekend, albeit a derby clash can often be awkward. But their home form has been excellent for some time now. Since defeat against leaders Arsenal in September, Newcastle have won eight of nine at St James’ Park in all competitions, including beating Manchester City. The odd one out saw Spurs net an injury-time equaliser.
Premier League Tips: Newcastle v Chelsea (Sat, 1230)
I also think it’s significant that Yoane Wissa is now fit and available. Having cost Brentford just £8.5million, I rate him as one of the Premier League’s best signings of recent years and the DR Congo star – not picked for the Africa Cup of Nations – got off the mark for his new club in midweek.
I doubt he’ll start here but Wissa is going to be a real threat to any defence when coming off the bench after 65 minutes. Admittedly, Chelsea’s away record is strong – only Palace have more away points – but does it stand up to real scrutiny? Three of their four away wins have come against sides currently in the bottom five; this should be a much sterner test and I certainly feel the value lies with the hosts.
Premier League Best Bets: Fulham v Nottingham Forest
Excuse me a moment for putting my Captain Hindsight cap on here but I almost went with Harry Wilson last week for my goalscorer bet. Not pulling the trigger was a regret when he netted his fourth goal in seven games against Burnley.
Instead, I went with the long-odds set-piece threat, Brighton’s Jan Paul van Hecke, who didn’t score. However, I wouldn’t be averse to backing the Dutchman again this weekend given he’ll be going up against a rejigged Sunderland defence, the Black Cats being the team hit hardest by the Africa Cup of Nations, which starts on Sunday. Fulham are also affected significantly, losing Alex Iwobi, Calvin Bassey and Samuel Chukwueze, but I would still expect them to be a threat here.
Crucially, Wilson is still available and he’ll be a key man – expect the form player to receive plenty of the ball against a Forest side without last week’s star performer, Ibrahim Sangare. Forest have certainly picked up under Sean Dyche. They notably won at Liverpool but there have also been losses at Bournemouth (0-2) and Everton (0-3) under his stewardship. Given his form, I think Wilson is a good price to score again at 3.7.
I’m also keen on this game when it comes to a props selection. Antonee Robinson recently returned to action after injury and I’m surprised to see him at 6.05 for an assist in this contest. Robinson managed double figures for assists last season but his limited game time in this campaign means he’s yet to get off the mark.
The American international usually plays as an attacking left-back but the absence of both Iwobi and Chukwueze means he could be pushed forward into the left side of the forward line. Either way, he’s sure to get forward into some good crossing positions and more than 5/1 in the anytime assist market looks worth grabbing, especially with potential recipient Wilson in such good form.
