Burnley delivered for Andy Schooler’s Premier League column last weekend and he’s going in again, with his latest Premier League Best Bets ahead of Matchday 9.
Premier League Best Bets: Matchday 9 Preview
Burnley landed this column a tasty winner when they beat Leeds at Turf Moor last week. They looked overpriced for that contest and the same can be said here – I’m really not sure who would want to back winless Wolves at odds-on right now.
Premier League Best Bets: Wolves v Burnley
They’ve already lost to the two other promoted clubs, Leeds and Sunderland – the latter only last weekend. In eight games, they’ve shipped 16 goals and scored only five. Burnley’s defence has been far from watertight too but many felt they would struggle for goals in the top flight but nine so far is a decent effort.
Jaidon Anthony has four of those and looks a decent threat in forward areas – he’s set to return here having missed last week’s win. I considered him as this week’s goalscorer pick – he’s 3.9 to find the net in this one – but instead I’m simply going to back the visitors in the double-chance market at 1.7. They also have potential for another victory at 3.9.
Premier League Best Bets: Everton v Tottenham
If not Anthony, then who for a goal this week? Let’s try Iliman Ndiaye. While Jack Grealish has been Everton’s biggest creative force this season and has deservedly won plenty of plaudits, Ndiaye hasn’t been far behind and, in goalscoring terms, he’s very much ahead. He’s scored in three of his last seven games and remains on penalties, as we saw in the Toffees’ last home match, a 2-1 win over Crystal Palace.
Throw in the couple of goals he scored at the end of last season and the Senegal star has scored five times in his last 10 Premier League appearances. He also found net on international duty recently too. Spurs come into this game in sixth place but they’ve begun to stutter after a strong start and their expected goals figures are considerably worse – both for and against – than the numbers you see on the league table. Everton have been strong at their new stadium, where they are yet to lose, and should trouble Spurs, who have conceded in their last four league games.
Premier League Best Bets: Leeds v West Ham
I know West Ham stunk the place out on Monday night but hear me out on this one. They actually did pretty well at Everton in new boss Nuno Espirito Santo’s first game and the players clearly need to produce a response to that Brentford loss at the start of the week.
The Hammers did spend plenty in the summer, which makes their start all the more frustrating, but one player who has made an impact is El-Hadji Malick Diouf. Strangely left out of the starting line-up on Monday, the youngster will surely return here for he’s already assisted three goals this season in seven starts. The marauding left-back has shown signs of a decent partnership with Crysencio Summerville down that flank and the latter will be out to make an impact against his former club.
Leeds come in off a 2-0 defeat at Burnley and while they probably deserved something better than that scoreline, it was a result which will have set alarm bells ringing around Elland Road. Fans and probably players will be looking at this as another game they ‘should’ be winning if they want to survive but that brings pressure. I’d expect notable improvement from West Ham and, at 6.15, Malick Diouf looks a big price for another assist.
