Premier League 2023/2024: Final Day Permutations

Premier League Best Bets

The final day of the Premier League 2023/2024 season takes place at the weekend, with the title and European places still up for grabs. We have got all the permutations and possibilities to consider across the league, as all 20 teams look to finish the campaign on a high on Sunday.

Premier League 2023/2024: Title Race

Manchester City lead Arsenal by two points going into the last round of fixtures, with the defending champions playing host to West Ham and the Gunners entertaining Everton. If City win, they are guaranteed to become the first team in the Premier League era to win four consecutive titles.

Should Pep Guardiola’s men be held to a draw, a win for Arsenal would see Mikel Arteta’s squad lift the trophy on goal difference – the Gunners are currently one goal better off than their title rivals in that statistic. Anything other than a win for Arsenal will see City defend their title, which would be their sixth crown in the last seven seasons.

Race for Europe

The top-four places have been confirmed, so the main focus away from the title will be on the battle to qualify for the Europa League and Europa Conference League. Tottenham are currently in fifth and should they avoid defeat at already-relegated Sheffield United, they cannot be caught.

The only way Spurs can slip from fifth place, is if they lose at Bramall Lane and Chelsea beat Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge. Mauricio Pochettino’s team are currently in sixth, which would mean Europa Conference League football, unless Manchester City win the FA Cup Final as that outcome would open up sixth as another Europa League spot.

Chelsea are currently three points ahead of Newcastle and Manchester United, but it’s only the Magpies who look to have realistic hopes of making the top six. For Newcastle to leapfrog Chelsea, the Blues would need to lose to Bournemouth and Newcastle win at Brentford, as Eddie Howe’s men have an eight goal better goal difference.

Manchester United would need both Chelsea and Newcastle to lose and they would need to win at Brighton and hope for a 16-goal swing to overtake both teams. Should Erik ten Hag’s men win the FA Cup then the Magpies could claim a Europa Conference League spot for finishing seventh.

Relegation Zone

With Sheffield United and Burnley already dropping out of the Premier League, there is only one more relegation spot to be confirmed. Baring the most bizarre results involving Nottingham Forest and Luton, it will be the Hatters dropping back down to the Championship.

Forest would have to lose and Luton win, with a 12-goal swing, for Rob Edwards’ men to pull off a great escape. Nottingham Forest are at Turf Moor to face Burnley, while Luton take on Fulham at Kenilworth Road.

Final finishing positions

Each position in the table is worth around £3million, so there is still plenty at stake on the final day for some of the other clubs. Burnley can still finish above Luton in 18th, if the Clarets win and Luton are beaten by Fulham.

The Cottagers start the final weekend in 14th and they can move up to as high as 12th, should they win and both Wolves and Crystal Palace lose. Both Wolves and Palace – 13th and 12th respectively – could, though, be the big movers on the final day, with a top-half finish in their sights.

Wanderers and the Eagles are on 46 points and can leapfrog Bournemouth and Brighton, if the south-coast duo both lose their games. Palace have the slight advantage over Wolves, with a -6 goal difference compared to -13 for Gary O’Neil’s men.
