Manchester City v Chelsea: Blues Huge Value at The Etihad, January 2025

Premier League Best Bets

The Etihad Stadium stages the biggest game in the Premier League this weekend as Manchester City v Chelsea in a huge clash in the race for the top four.

Manchester City v Chelsea: Blues Huge Value at The Etihad

The Blues are currently fourth but they are only two points ahead of the champions, who have endured a miserable campaign by their standards.  An intriguing clash should play out, with neither side playing at their best of late, and Saturday’s heavyweight showdown is likely to be full of excitement, with a shock potentially on the cards.

Manchester City v Chelsea: Blues Fancied

There is no hiding from Chelsea’s woeful recent record in this fixture, with the Blues winless in the pair’s last 10 head-to-heads, but this is probably the first time in that sequence that they look the better team going into a meeting with City.

The Citizens threw away a two-goal lead to be beaten 4-2 by Paris St-Germain on Wednesday – a result which leaves them at risk of an early exit in the Champions League – and they have now lost 10 of their last 19 matches.  Most worrying is their record against the Premier League’s best sides, as Pep Guardiola’s men have one win, one draw and four losses to show from their meetings with the big six, suggesting Chelsea may have enough to earn a point this Saturday.  The Blues have lost just two of their last 18 games and are worth siding with in the double-chance market.

Manchester City v Chelsea: Cold Palmer Heating Up

It is rare that Guardiola makes mistakes when it comes to transfers – City’s trio of new signings, Abdukodir Khusanov, Vitor Reis and Omar Marmoush, all look like smart pieces of business – but one major blemish on his record is the decision to allow Cole Palmer to leave for Chelsea.  A decision that still irks Citizens’ fans

The England star has been a revelation at Stamford Bridge, scoring 36 goals and providing 17 assists in 55 Premier League games for the Blues, and he could come back to haunt his former employers on Saturday.  Palmer scored a 95th-minute penalty to secure a point against City last term and he has been leading the way for Chelsea of late, scoring three of his side’s last seven goals.

Manchester City v Chelsea: Corner-Less

Manchester City’s matches average 11.05 corners per game, which may have punters rushing to back the over on Saturday, but there is reason to believe the under actually provides better value.  Just one of the past seven meetings between this pair have seen 11 or more corners awarded, with the majority getting nowhere near that figure, generally totalling five or six.

It is also worth noting that while City and Chelsea tend to rack up a lot of corners, they are also very good at limiting them. Both the Citizens (3.14 per game) and the Blues (3.82) rank in the top three for fewest corners against and there is every chance the pair cancel each other out on the set-piece front at the Etihad.
