The final set of group games of the FIFA World Cup 2026 gets under way on Wednesday which means six matches in one day, including Scotland v Brazil. Andy Schooler previews them all.
FIFA World Cup 2026: Huge June 24th Preview
‘Matchday three’ begins at the World Cup on Wednesday which means two games will be played concurrently – pick your match or get another screen! It’s worth noting at this point that FIFA have changed the way the group ‘tie-breakers’ work. In the past, they’ve used the simple goal difference (and then goals scored) method. However, this time teams level on points will be separated via head-to-head record.
FIFA World Cup 2026: Canada v Switzerland (ITV, 8pm)
In Group B, this means Switzerland are almost certainly already through to the last 32 and that should give them the freedom to have a go at the co-hosts here – they need a win to top the group. A draw guarantees both progress with Canada finishing first so looks sure to have its backers at 2.9. The match-up I like here is down the Swiss right where the much-fouled Dan Ndoye should be up against Richie Laryea.
The Canadian full-back is well known for his high foul numbers, although he’s actually yet to commit one at the World Cup. That should change here with Ndoye long one of the most-fouled players in international football. Laryea is 3.4 for a card, which could be worth an interest, while there’s potential in the tackle markets, too, where the left-back also posted consistently high numbers. Eight of his last 14 appearances have seen him make three or more tackles. That’s a 1.83 chance in this one.
FIFA World Cup 2026: Bosnia-Herzegovina v Qatar (ITV, 8pm)
With these sides heading into this game with only a point apiece, both realistically need a win to stand a chance of progressing to the knockout stages. Bosnia should fancy their chances of doing so. They’ve been organised at the back and only after they had a man sent off did things disintegrate against Switzerland on matchday two.
Qatar have struggled to contain opponents. Switzerland should have beaten them comfortably and Canada did after ill discipline undermined their chances early on. They now have two players suspended for this clash. Bosnia will also be without Tarik Muharemovic due to a ban and admittedly that’s a little concerning for the bet I quite like here – Bosnia to win to nil. Nikola Katic remains their defensive leader though and I think he can organise and cajol that backline to keep Qatar chances to a minimum and provide the platform for those ahead to secure the goal(s) required.
The win to nil is 2.2 but instead I’ll take the slightly shorter price about Bosnia winning and under 3.5 goals in the match. Bosnia aren’t full of goals and if they do get in front, there’s every chance they look to hold what they have with qualification the goal, not a big, eyecatching victory. This gives us a bit of safety net against a team who have to attack and did score against the Swiss.
FIFA World Cup 2026: Scotland v Brazil (BBC, 11pm)
There’s still all to play for in Group C. Brazil have topped their World Cup group every time since 1978 but even a win won’t guarantee that here, although it will likely be good enough. Scotland, meanwhile, probably still need a point if they are to reach the knockout stage for the very first time. If they are to lose, keeping it close will be crucial – Ukraine progressed at Euro 2020 with three points and a goal difference of minus one, something Scotland would have if they only lose this by a single goal.
Keeping Brazil out will be tough though. While the South Americans certainly haven’t sparkled yet, Vinicius Junior has shown what he’s capable of, while Matheus Cunha delivered goals as Haiti were eased aside in the first half last week. The former has scored in both games so far and could well be worth a bet at odds-against here.
Scotland’s main problem though will be creating chances. They managed just two shots on target in two games so far and they rarely threatened Morocco last time out. Brazil should be too good here and a win to nil can be backed at 1.9. Hardly mouthwatering but a likely winner in my view.
FIFA World Cup 2026: Morocco v Haiti (BBC, 11pm)
Morocco only need a draw to progress although they may well be eyeing a big win against already-eliminated opponents as that could see them pip Brazil to top spot. Following on from a 19-goal season at PSV Eindhoven, Ismael Saibari has scored in both games so far and is tempting at even money to add another here – Haiti have conceded four times already at the tournament. On the other side of the ball, Ricardo Ade is an interesting one for a side who should have something of a care-free attitude to this game.
With nothing at stake, they might as well give it a go. The centre-back has managed three shots so far and is a top target from set-pieces. With Haiti being the most-fouled team in the tournament at time of writing, there’s every chance they’ll get opportunities to put the ball into the box on several occasions. Ade is odds-against for a shot here which is of interest while it might just be worth a dart that finds the net – he’s a 26.0 chance to do so!
FIFA World Cup 2026: Czechia v Mexico (BBC, 2am)
Mexico could well rest players here given they have already won the group – this essentially means nothing to the co-hosts. Czechia, on the other hand, really need a win if they are to progress further so they can be expected to push on, especially if they aren’t in front during the second half. They’ve been very dangerous from set-pieces and you’d expect them to create a few of those situations against a Mexico side who struggled against Korea last time out – they were booed off at half time, remember. With a few anticipated changes, they could be disjointed here.
If there are any unusual combinations in the back line, that could play into the hands of Ladislav Krejci. The Wolves defender has been a main target on those corners, free kicks and long throws, and the centre-back has already had five shots in the tournament, scoring against the Koreans. The 2.8 about him having multiple shots in this contest looks worth taking, while an interest is the anytime scorer market at 9.5 is also advised. Krejci has scored in three of his last six internationals and overall has six for his country in 28 starts.
FIFA World Cup South Africa v South Korea (BBC, 2am)
Korea are the correct favourites here but they only need a point to nail down second place and can’t win the group so there’s not the biggest motivation to win at 1.6. They were poor against Mexico, whereas South Africa will have renewed their confidence with an improved display against the Czechs when they fought back to claim a 1-1 draw.
They had 62% of possession in that one and managed 17 shots – they really pushed hard for a winner in the closing stages and will need to do something similar here if they don’t manage to get ahead early on. They certainly weren’t afraid to try their luck from distance, often a source of shots when desperation starts to kick in. I therefore like the chance of South African shots with two players appealing in those markets.
Centre-back Mbekezeli Mbokazi managed three shots against Czechia, largely by lurking on the edge of the box on set-plays. He’s now landed the 2+ shots bet in four of his last seven competitive internationals and with the Koreans weak defending set-pieces earlier in the tournament, he could get chances. Left-back Aubrey Modiba also struck three shots last time out as he pushed forward to help the attack. His 2+ figures aren’t so strong but notably he’s been a more accurate shooter, landing the shot-on-target bet in three of his last eight.
This option is out at 5.0 here and that looks too big given the match circumstances. If Korea are in front, or holding on for the point they need, it’s easy to see them digging in and inviting South Africa on. They’ll probably be fairly happy to allow their opponents pot shots from distance and so these two players look worthy of market support.
