FA Cup Tips: Huge Longshots to Cause Round 3 Upsets

FA Cup final best bets

The third round has traditionally been one of the biggest weekends in the English footballing calendar and we have FA Cup Tips for punters this weekend.  It’s always a tricky punting heat with players rested for more important clashes later in the season.

FA Cup Tips: Longshots/Upsets to Watch in Round 3

It marks the stage when the 44 clubs from the Premier League and Championship enter the competition and it has become synonymous with upsets down the years. Aaron Rogan has pored over this season’s third-round fixtures in search for any outsiders to keep an eye on and some potential upsets.

FA Cup Tips: League Two Underdogs

Three League Two clubs – Accrington, Morecambe and Salford – have been handed money-spinning ties away to Premier League opposition in this season’s third round. Accrington are huge underdogs at 29.00 for their visit to Premier League leaders Liverpool on Saturday while Morecambe, second-bottom of the entire Football League, are the same price to stun Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Salford, who are owned by some of Manchester United’s legendary class of ‘92, are marginally shorter in the betting to produce a shock win over Premier League champions Manchester City at the Etihad. The League Two promotion hopefuls are 26.00 to beat a City side who have endured their fair share of troubles in recent months.

FA Cup Tips: Premier League Hopefuls

Burnley made the quarter-finals of the FA Cup the last time they were in the Championship but the Clarets face a tricky third-round tie at League One Reading this time around.

The Royals are sixth in the third tier and have won 12 of their 15 home matches this season. And while achieving promotion to the Championship will be their focus this season, the potential to secure a big fourth-round tie would help with their off-pitch issues. At 6.20, the on-song Royals look a tempting bet to end the Clarets’ cup involvement.

FA Cup Tips: Bouncing Bromley

While Accrington, Morecambe and Salford are all huge outsiders at Premier League opposition, their League Two contemporaries Bromley (15.00) are much shorter in the betting against Newcastle.

The Magpies have won their last seven matches but Eddie Howe is expected to ring the changes against the Ravens, potentially opening the door to an upset. Newcastle have fallen at this stage in three of their last four seasons, which includes a home defeat to Cambridge in 2022, and Bromley are one of the form sides in the fourth tier, losing only one of their last 11 and winning four of their last five on the road.  If Howe’s anticipated changes knock the Magpies off their stride, Bromley could cause the shock of third-round weekend.

FA Cup Tips: More Upsets

Two National League sides have made it through to the third round, with Tamworth landing a dream draw against Premier League Tottenham.  Sunday’s clash at the Lamb Ground features the biggest gulf between two sides across the round, but home advantage means Tamworth are priced at 12.00 to produce an upset.

Dagenham & Redbridge’s visit to Millwall on Monday night seems like a more realistic chance of a shock.  Millwall have lost each of their last four FA Cup games and the Daggers are 8.00 to extend that losing streak.
