After three winners from five bets in the international window, Andy Schooler is back with his FA Cup Best Bets, and has his usual 3 picks ahead of this weekend’s Quarter-Finals.
FA Cup Best Bets: Andy Schooler’s Huge Quarter-Final Tips
We had Palace in this fixture last month and they duly won 2-0 to land us a nice winner. A repeat may well be worth backing. Palace have now lost just two of their last 14 and, perhaps more importantly from the perspective of siding with them at 3.0, they’ve won six of their last seven. Away from home, it’s five victories on the spin – notably every one has come via a 2-0 scoreline which is 10.5 here – and six consecutive clean sheets.
They also have the added bonus of welcoming back top scorer Jean-Philippe Matata for this game following the awful head injury he received in the previous-round win over Millwall. The Frenchman has eight goals in his last 10 appearances. Fulham have also been in decent form but they’ve not been quite so consistent and, at the prices, Palace look well worth a try.
FA Cup Best Bets: Preston North End v Aston Villa
Marco Asensio has made a flying start to life at Villa Park and he’s now scored seven goals in his last five appearances. This looks an ideal game for him to get another start – and he’s scored four times in three starts since his arrival from PSG in January. This quarter-final sees him go up against the one remaining lower-league side in the competition and Preston currently sit in the bottom half of the Championship.
A run of just one win in their last seven league fixtures hardly inspires confidence in the upset, although it should be said they have proved tough to beat at Deepdale. However, Villa have rediscovered some form of their own and they arrive at this tie having won four games in a row in all competitions and lost just one of their last nine.
It’s always hard to predict who exactly will play in these FA Cup ties – there are Premier League games in midweek with Villa at Brighton – but a strong visiting team should have too much for the hosts here with Asensio looking a strong contender to score, if he starts. He’s actually scored 2+ goals in three of his last five appearances – that’s available to back at 8.0 and worth some loose change too.
FA Cup Best Bets: Preston North End v Aston Villa
I’m also heading to Deepdale for our props bet this week. Youri Tielemans is the man I’m turning to with the Villa midfielder a tempting price for 2+ shots. The Belgian is rarely left out and the fact he missed Sunday’s Nations League game with Ukraine due to suspension surely helps his cause in terms of starting here.
The midfielder’s last 10 games have seen him hit multiple shots on seven occasions and now he’s going up against much weaker opposition than he normally does. I’m surprised we can get odds-against about Tielemans having two or more shots again in this contest and will back him accordingly.
