There’s been a lot to like about thew new format for the Champions League 2024/2025 season, and the final round of the league phase promises plenty of drama.
Champions League 2024/2025: Huge Matchday 8 Tips
Eighth-placed Bayer Leverkusen are ahead of five sides on goal difference alone, while Manchester City and PSG feature in key games just to finish in the top 24.
Champions League 2024/2025: Hopeful Villains
Aston Villa’s loss at Monaco left them ninth in the standings with one game to go. Their home clash with Celtic looks favourable, especially given that the Scottish side are already through to the next round.
Celtic have picked up 10 of their 12 points at home, while four of their seven games were against teams in the bottom 10 of the standings. This difficult trip pits them against a Villa side who don’t just need to win, they have to boost their goal difference. Back the Villains to win a high-scoring game, especially after failing to keep a clean sheet in their previous five at Villa Park.
Champions League 2024/2025: Reliable Inter
Inter Milan have all but secured their spot in the top-eight, but don’t expect them to ease off after winning 20 of their previous 25 games across all competitions. The Nerazzurri should enjoy facing a Monaco side who need a victory, allowing the Italian champions to take a back seat and pick off their opponents on the break.
Inter have conceded only once in the Champions League so far, while they’ve won 10 of their last 12 home games in this competition. With seven of those wins finishing 1-0, along with four of their last five games in this season’s Champions League, take them for another slender win.
Champions League 2024/2025: Vulnerable City
Manchester City recorded a 3-1 win over Chelsea on Saturday, but they still aren’t back to their best. Defensive issues remain for the Premier League champions, who have conceded in nine of their previous 12, keeping clean sheets against Leicester, Ipswich and Salford City.
City have conceded 13 times across their last 13 in Europe and they will be eliminated from the Champions League unless they beat Club Brugge. The Belgian side will progress if they avoid defeat, meaning they’ll likely need a goal against a City side who have scored in nine of their last 11 at home. The visitors have scored at Sturm Graz, AC Milan and Celtic in Europe this term, so back both teams to score in Manchester.
Champions League 2024/2025: Suffering Slovan
Slovan Bratislava have lost all seven games in the Champions League this season and they finish with a visit to Bayern Munich. The Slovakian side have already lost 5-1 to Celtic, 4-0 to Manchester City and 4-1 to Dinamo Zagreb.
Wednesday is likely to be their toughest assignment, as they meet a Bayern side who have won 5-1 at Shakhtar Donetsk and 9-2 against Dinamo. The Bavarians have put five goals past RB Leipzig and Hoffenheim at home since the turn of the year, so expect them to run away with this contest.
