Weekend Racing Tips: Four horses to follow on Saturday at Ayr

It’s another Premier Raceday on Saturday and the best of the action comes from Newbury and Ayr.

We’ve picked out four selections for Saturday including a couple of value picks at double figure odds.

Weekend Racing Tips: 1.15 Ayr – Handicap (Class 2, 1m)

A case can be made for plenty of these with preference for Stone Soldier who may be able to obtain an uncontested lead in this field.

This seven-year-old shaped like a return to form was imminent in a competitive race at York last time when beaten less than three lengths and there’s a suspicion this course and distance will suit given that it often suits horses that can get away on the front end.

Selection: Stone Soldier

Weekend Racing Tips: 2.25 Ayr – Ayr Silver Cup Handicap (Class 2, 6f)

This year’s Silver Cup looks absolutely wide open but with a lot of the pace drawn on the far side, it could be worth siding with one that has a low draw.

One that fits the bill is Two Tribes in stall three. He has pace on either side of him that should give him a nice tow into the race and his effort at Ascot last time is worth putting a line through given that he’s unproven on the soft ground he encountered that day.

Conditions should suit here and he had previously looked unlucky when a close up fourth at York on his penultimate start.

Selection: Two Tribes

Weekend Racing Tips: 3.00 Ayr – Firth Of Clyde (Group 3) (Fillies) (Class 1, 6f)

Maw Lam was a bit disappointing at York last week but she got upset in the preliminaries that day and she had previously been on an upward trajectory.

This daughter of Acclamation went close in a deep Listed contest in France two starts ago and a return to a quicker surface should suit given that she wasn’t beaten far in the Queen Mary on good to firm earlier in the season.

She still needs to prove that she’s as good at this six furlong trip but both her dam and sire won over the distance and there could be more to come from this filly.

Selection: Maw Lam

Weekend Racing Tips: 3.35 Ayr – Ayr Gold Cup Handicap (Heritage Handicap, 6f)

Last week’s Portland looked wide open but American Affair came in for some significant market support before returning a 4/1 winner and this extra half a furlong won’t bother him, given that he’s won over seven-furlongs.

It’s worth marking up last week’s Doncaster run given that Paul Mulrennan found himself caught in a pocket on more than one occasion and this son of Washington DC looks capable of going in again with just a 5lb penalty to carry for that success.

A low draw down in stall four could also be in his favour given that some of the front runners are drawn low and if he gets a clear run this time around, he’s probably going to be hard to stop.

Selection: American Affair
