Belgian Grand Prix 2024: Brilliant Brits to Thrive at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps

Belgian Grand Prix 2024

After allowing his McLaren team-mate Oscar Piastri to pass him to win in Hungary last week, Lando Norris could well have his moment on top of the podium at the Belgian Grand Prix 2024 on Sunday. There’s been plenty of fallout after last week’s Hungarian Grand Prix, with McLaren instructing Norris to allow his team-mate to claim the victory.

While it took some time before Norris eventually conceded first place to his Australian team-mate, this weekend’s race at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps offers a great opportunity for the Brit to claim what would be his second win of the 2024 F1 season – and not done yet.

Belgian Grand Prix 2024: Lurking Lando

Despite his frustration at not taking the chequered flag in Hungary, Norris has spoken of his optimism that he can still leapfrog Max Verstappen at the top of the Drivers’ Championship. With Verstappen missing out on the podium last time out, Norris has managed to narrow the gap to 76 points in the standings with 11 meetings of the campaign still to go.

If Norris is to stun the Red Bull star Verstappen to claim a maiden Drivers’ Championship, the Bristolian will need to keep the pressure on the Dutchman, who has spoken of his team’s shortcomings in Hungary. Motivated by the events of last week, Norris has shown the level of consistency in recent months to suggest he’s worth backing to take the chequered flag at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps on Sunday. His continued success bodes well for the long-term success of McLaren who will be eyeing up yet another Constructers Championship title.

Belgian Grand Prix 2024: Hamilton is Back

Lewis Hamilton has been giving Ferrari fans a taste of what they can expect next season with two impressive back-to-back performances at the British and Hungarian grands prix. Taking the chequered flag at Silverstone, the seven-time world champion went on to finish third in Hungary last time out.

Now with three podium finishes in his last four races, Hamilton is getting back to the form that used to see him competing at the very top of the Drivers’ Championship for so many years. The Brit is driving with renewed confidence and is good value to continue his strong form and secure a third-consecutive podium finish on Sunday at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps.

Belgian Grand Prix 2024: Nico Warming up Nicely

Looking to a slightly bigger price, Nico Hulkenberg has been impressing of late and looks capable of making a return to the top six this weekend in Belgium. Last week’s Hungarian Grand Prix ended in disappointment for the Haas driver, as he had to settle for 13th place.

However, the 36-year-old had previously recorded back-to-back sixth-place finishes in both the Austrian and British Grand Prix to see him climb up the Drivers’ Championship standings. If Hungary was just a blip for Hulkenberg, the 4.95 is tempting to see the former Force India driver return to the top six on Sunday.
