Dave Chisnall sits down with kwiff to discuss his recent trip to Germany for the Baltic Sea Open, and after a busy schedule of travelling back and forth to Europe ten times in 14 weeks, is doing his best Darwin Nunez impression this weekend.
Baltic Sea Open
It was another trip over to Germany last weekend, travelling Friday afternoon for The Baltic Sea Open, which I won the year before beating World Number One Luke Humphries in the final. I had mentally prepared myself to be facing Chris (Dobey) but I ended up facing Madars Razma in the second round.
Madars is a good player, and rode his luck well to win the opening game, but I still fancied my chances on Saturday evening. I hated the draw I got – I really like to be in there and playing as soon as, so on last was no good for me. No excuses though, I should have won. I was 5-2 up and then took my eye off the ball a little. And when that happens, and you aren’t at 100%, you get punished.
He took out a couple of good finishes, and was mustard on his cover shot. I couldn’t believe how often that Treble 19 was getting him out of trouble. Fair play to him, he went on a good run too, beating my pal Joe Cullen in Round 3, and then taking out my Harrows mate Ryan Searle in the quarters. It shows just how fine margins this game can be. If I polish off one of those legs and win 6-4, he goes out early doors, and instead goes on a run to the semis and takes home £8500. Not a bad weekend’s work!
Back to the Practice Board
It’s nice to be home for the weekend now and, a bit like Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez, I need to work on my finishing. I’ll spending all weekend practicing my finishing and a few combos. My scoring has come back the last couple of weeks, which is nice to see some of the hard work behind the scenes pay off. The biggest test in this game is just sticking with it and not getting too bothered when things aren’t necessarily going to plan.
I had a bit of a dip in April and was getting pretty frustrated. I played poor at the Pro Tour events in Leicester and deserved to lose. The last couple of events have been much better – Euro Tour and Pro Tour- and I’m looking forward to a busy summer. The Matchplay is always a good week in Blackpool, and the Euro Tour has 7 more events starting with next weekend’s trip to Holland. I’ll hopefully bag one before the end of the year.
Jurgen Klopp
A quick word on what a job Jurgen Klopp has done at Liverpool FC. He’s been monstrous to the club the last decade and whilst you might be able to replace the head coach and tactician, the new fella has a hard job replacing the man. Hope he has his feet up in the Caribbean with a cold one this summer!
Catch up next weekend!
