Windsor Racing Tips: Winter Million Day 3
A tendency to jump right isn’t going to help Moon Rocket around here, and for all he’s in good form at present I’d rather look elsewhere. Wade Out is going to have to jump better than he did when successful at Cheltenham last time out, and preference is for Salver, who impressed when winning at Sandown in December.
Windsor Racing Tips: Salver (1:20)
Although only fourth in the Kauto Star at Kempton at Christmas, that form wasn’t much below what he achieved at Sandown. Some cheekpieces are added, but Salver (1.20) will enjoy conditions and simply has less question marks against him that a few of these.
Windsor Racing Tips: Torneo (1:50)
The consistent Torneo (1:50) gets the vote here. He’s done little wrong all season, a solid seasonal reappearance at Wetherby followed up by a terrific effort at Cheltenham, only finding a well-backed and well-handicapped Triple Trade back on form, going down by a neck in a driving finish.
He was behind Highland Legacy when the pair were second and fourth behind Mighty Bandit at Newbury but he was given plenty to do on a day when racing prominently helped. He can reverse form with that one today, and with conditions no issue, looks good value.
Windsor Racing Tips: Minella Missile (2:25)
It takes a bit of a leap of faith to be with Minella Missile (2:25) here but at 14s and bigger, he’s worth risking a few quid on. Once upon a time he was thought top class, a defeat of Captain Teague at Cheltenham the highlight of his novice career, but injury kept him off for over a year and in truth, he’s not looked the same horse since.
However, there’s just been some signs that all might not be totally lost on his last couple of starts; he was spotted finishing his race off better behind Kabral Du Mathan at Haydock two starts ago and then was beaten a shade over nine lengths here on New Year’s Day, looking like he might just be refinding some form. He’s fallen far enough in the handicap to be given a chance on his current abilities, and is worth a go over this three mile trip.
Windsor Racing Tips: Planned Paradise (3:35)
Planned Paradise looks to have been teed up to a nicety for this and can reward each-way support. He looked on the way back to form under a 7lb amateur at Cheltenham in November, plugging away at one pace in the closing stages and since then two runs at Ludlow over two and a half miles have, unsurprisingly, not seen him at his best, on both occasions outpaced and looking hard work.
To that extent, a step back up a mile in trip and Jack Tudor taking over in the saddle both look positives; he won this last year from a 7lb higher mark (again, Tudor replacing an amateur) and he looks sure to run a massive race again.
