Premier League Darts Tips

Luke Littler heads to Belfast on Thursday in defense of the Premier League title which he won last year as a new season of action gets underway.

Luke Humphries, Michael van Gerwen, Gerwyn Price, Stephen Bunting, Chris Dobey, Rob Cross and Nathan Aspinall will all be out to disarm the Nuke, but the 18-year-old may prove a level above his seven rivals.

Premier League Darts Tips: Nuke can make successful defence of title

Littler lifted the Premier League title in his first appearance in the competition last year and it’s difficult to see The Nuke not striking again.

Since taking down the Premier League title at London’s O2 Arena, Littler has become the world champion, become the biggest name in darts and taken the sport to new heights.

The 18-year-old finished four points clear of Humphries on the final league standings last season and a whopping 11 points clear of Van Gerwen and Michael Smith in third and fourth place.

The Nuke then went on to destroy Smith 10-5 in the semi-finals on play-off night, before Humphries was dispatched 11-7 in the final at the O2.

The Warrington arrowsmith averaged 105.60 under the utmost pressure in the final with Cool Hand Luke, but huge averages on the biggest occasions is what we have come to expect from the teenager.

Littler is likely to be too good, too often, for his seven Premier League rivals and The Nuke should top the league phase of the competition as he did last year.

That would leave the 18-year-old as the number one seed on finals night and, at 2.0 everything is in place for Littler to successfully defend his Premier League title.

Premier League Darts Tips: Voltage can power past Bunting

Rob Cross made a strong start to the season when winning the Dutch Darts Masters last month and Volatge can be backed to see off Stephen Bunting on the opening night of Premier League action in Belfast.

The Kent arrowsmith appears to be producing his best level on a more consistent basis at the moment and a first-round World Masters defeat to Willie O’Connor can be forgiven.

Cross averaged 103 in that loss to O’Connor and there was very little wrong with the Milton Keynes performance.

Bunting has developed into a top-level performer, but the Bullet appears a little too short to down Cross.

A string of missed doubles cost the Merseyside man in last week’s World Masters and there could well be some nerves with Bunting making his first full-time appearance in the Premier League since the 2015 staging of the competition.

A repeat of his Milton Keynes double trouble could leave the Bullet vulnerable to Voltage’s power finishing.
